Museo Leonora Carrington

The museum is inside an art school that also has a gallery, a theater, a library, bookshop, etc. This place used to be a prison, so it has a very interesting story behind it. The part of the complex dedicated to Leonora Carrington is beautiful, and it shows not only her sculptures, but some paintings and sketches as well. I really recommend visiting this place.

Definitely worth a visit, very interesting place and very quiet on weekdays.

Museo Leonora Carrington is a must see when in San Luis Potosi. She was one of the greatest artists of surrealism. Located in the ancient prison, now Centro de las Artes, the exposition contains sculptures and paintings of Carrington beautifully displayed in and outside the building. Fascinating art!

Great place for visit and learn about the old 90’s prison, Leonora Carrington art is awesome and beautiful. Surrealistic art school and the guides are so good!

This museum was inaugurated in 2019. It has a lot of meaning that in the past, this space used to be a jail, an now its a space to liberate your creativity.
The space is beautiful, as well as Leonora’s works, but for me, there are lot of works missing.
I really wanted to buy a lithography, and there where none in the store.
But if you visit SLP you should visit this museum!

Our first stop in SLP. What a fascinating museum. Really enjoy learning about the artist and artist friends. The large sculptures were such a treat to see in this setting. A must when in SLP

This is a great place to visit! Take the guided tour and then spend time enjoying the sculptures, etc. The beauty of the building belies the atrocities that occurred within for over 100 years (until 1999), and is better suited for it's better suited for its current use, but one is always reminded of what it used to be, and the contrast is quite jarring.

Beautiful art form Leonora Carrington. Her sculptures are amazing!!! However, the store (tienda) to buy items related to her work was a disappointment. A few items, only small t-shirts to buy. non of her sculpture in miniature...nothing to remember the experience of going to the museum. It's a shame...

The museum is located in a building that was originally a prison and was renovated and now holds the exhibit. The place and it's courtyards alone are worth a visit if you are in San Luis. Leonora's exhibit is interesting and you can read about her life. The exhibit -although small- consist mostly of sculptures that look amazing in the open spaces and some sketches and paintings. My only criticisms is that some of the rooms are very dark and it is hard to truly appreciate the pieces.

Liked it. I only lament the few amount of paintings from the artists, lots of drawings and sculptures though. Enjoyed the short film, at least that way we could see more of her paintings.
