In a colonial city like the capital of Potosí, turning 48 is the same as being new, so we can say that the spectacular Plaza del Carmen is a young girl who grew up around a temple that is 257 years old. The El Carmen Complex was designed by the architects Cossío, Algara and Garfias based on the Templo del Carmen, a beautiful jewel of Baroque architecture, located a few meters from the Alameda Juan Sarabia. Another of its treasures is the Procession of Silence, which although it has not been possible to carry out in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is a tradition that does not die because it is part of the historical heritage of the Potosi capital, and it is the main attraction of the Religious Tourism portfolio, which has its highest season during Holy Week. In the Historic Center is one of the most important jewels of SLP: El Carmen, a unique ultra-baroque work. The original altarpiece and the other works inside it were destroyed in 1957.
