El Hidalguense

Upon arriving, my group of two was immediately seated. The staff was very nice, as well. I really enjoyed the Licuado de Fresa (strawberry), and the dragonfruit pulque was super good. The barbacoa was served with blue corn tortillas and a few different salsas and seasonings, and all together the tacos were awesome. The beans and chips they served were wonderful, too, of course. Overall it was a really great meal and we didn’t end up spending too much!

I have seen this place in the Taco Chronicles of Netflix. The ambiance and the service were impeccable. The owner and chef are very friendly and professional. The food was served hot, in a timely and staggered way. I will return to this place on my next visit to Mexico City.

The food is excellent, everything, only the tables a little small for all the food we ordered, but be side that everything was good 👍🏻

This barbacoa was spectacular, accompanied with it's consomé. And we ventured to order queso fundido with corn and escamoles, which is a Mexican delicatessen of ant eggs

It was perfect! I’m always nervous when I have to choose a place to eat, because my family never likes my choices! However; both my brother and dad loved it! 10/10

This is true love! More then 30 minutes in a line worth this Barbacoa place. Consome soup was amazing. Barbacoa meet sooo tender and delicious. Second floor is a bit too crowd on weekends, but you can definitely forget about it because of amazing food. Staff is very friendly and quick. They speak English. Perfect place for family diner.

Extremely delicious barbacoa! There’s quite the line out the front but they happy take bookings. We were seated quickly and our waiter was extremely helpful, guiding us where needed and making some great suggestions. WOW! One of the most wonderful meals I have ever had! Everything is fresh and delicious! The meat shreds/pulls a part ever so delicately! Try a pulque to wash it all done! Don't miss this gem in Mexico City, Mexico!!!!!

Went to this place sharp at 7 in excitement and they were still setting up..Waited for 20 minutes and was worth the wait. The staff was really considerate, courteous and patiently answered all my questions. The food was of course really tasty.

As many people has already mentioned, this place became suddenly famous because of its appearance in Netflix and that's why I ended up here.
However, I was surprised that it is actually the best Barbacoa and pancita I have ever tested, though! And definitely not that expensive as I thought it would be.
The only unfortunate thing is that, for some reason, tips can't be included in the final check and pay them with your credit card (if you are paying with credit card, of course). So you would need to carry some cash if you want to leave some tip to the waitress.

Bottom line, highly recommended place!

Found out about El Hidalguense on Netflix's Taco Chronicles. They live up to the hype! It was an amazing culinary experience. Our waiter gave excellent recommendations. We tried the Sopes Huastecos, Escamoles, Tacos de Barbacoa, Pulques de Fresa, Guanábano, y Guayaba. Everything was so authentic! The Barbacoa tacos came with blue corn tortillas and were even wrapped in a Maguey leaf that was still warm. I had no idea what to expect when it came to the pulque we had heard it's not to everyone's taste because of the texture. I would describe it as a yogurt-like drink that tastes similar to flavored kombucha. Good companion to the tacos and a must have local specialty!

*Being from Northern Mexico/United States my family is used to Barbacoa de Rez (Beef) but here they have Barbacoa de Cordero (Lamb). I'm not usually a fan but this was a great exception!

Everything about this place is amazing. This felt like a truly authentic Mexican restaurant. They had staff that could help us translate things into English, which was wonderful. Everything our server suggested was great. I highly recommend the soursop drink and the barbacoa. The barbacoa is so good we're trying to fit another visit to this restaurant in our visit before we leave. There are long lines around lunch, so come early.

Delicious experience. We had a variety of dishes: quesadillas, tacos, barbacoa, chilaquiles, mixiote. Great way to try several styles of dishes. We went for lunch on a Sunday and it was PACKED. Would definitely go again. Only thing I wouldn't recommend is the plate of seasonal fruit. In October it consisted of papaya and mealy apples. The fresh juices are lovely though.

Excellent traditional barbacoa. The service is a little bit salesy, and it would be good to tone it down a notch, but the food is superb. Kudos 🙂👍

Super tender and juicy barbacoa! 0.25kg was enough for two of us. The waitress will ask whether if you want no fat or some fat to be served with the meat. In our opinion, to include some fat with the meat is perfect! Barbacoa is grilled in between an agave look alike plant leave, it's served with blue core tortilla, salsa, cilantro and onion. The Verde (green) juice is also very tasty and refreshing, it tasted like a combination of pineapple, cucumber and a little mint.
This place is only open from Friday to Sunday, morning to early night (6pm). We came to here around 12:30pm on a Friday and didn't wait in line at all.

An amazing experience with amazing food and the best service. Our server walked us through exactly what to order and took such good care of us. Incredible barbacoa on the freshest and most flavorful bue masa tortillas. Great queso fresco and everything else.

Great food and service. We ordered the few different tacos but the barbarcoa and chorizo were 10/10! In a bit of a secluded area, seemed like a local favourite too! Highly recommend :)
