National Art Museum Reviews

We visited on a Sunday and to our surprise the entrance was free. We where not allowed to take pictures from every collection.
The building was beautiful, consisting of three levels.
The first collection consisted of modern art with a couple of pieces of post modern. For me, being European, this was an extremely interesting experience. The pieces were heavily influenced by the native culture. Images of humans and animals in vibrant colors and wild expressions. 10/10
The second collection consisted mostly of sculptures inspired by the classical period.
There were also some paintings from the enlightenment period.
The third one was an exhibition of the artist Petrona Viera.

Great art museum focused on European colonial art and later work from artists such as Diego Rivera and Rodrigo Pimentel. The building itself is stunning, and some of the finest works are ceiling murals - look up! Good for an approximately two-hour long visit depending on your pace.

Great changing exhibits along w the classics. Absolutely incredible building - very hard to believe it was built as a government office building. How times have changed..

The building and the art are spectacular! Sadly, the sculpture section is only open on weekends. So I gladly went twice!

Beautiful museum in a historic and impressive building. We happened to visit on a Sunday, so admission was free. I'm not sure what they normally charge, but the museum is worth a visit one way or another. I really enjoyed seeing a few more Diego Rivera pieces.

Great museum, not as crowded as others and well worth it. The entrance is smooth and the architecture is gorgeous. You can enjoy it in a fast visit to centro. They have a permanent collection of mexican artist and a temporary hall with artwork that is very interesting.

Awesome experience. Beautiful place. Great exhibits. It was a little weird that if you want to take pictures, it’s allowed, but you have to pay an extra 10 pesos. Not a big deal but some people were charged and some people weren’t so it was just strange. But definitely worth it to pay the 10 pesos and take pics because the building is remarkable.

This is a wonderful space and a beautiful building. The art inside is not as impressive as the building itself. I really like the layout and the style, its one of those you kind of have to go to.

An extraordinary museum, a must visit if you’re in CDMX. The architecture is beautiful, you’ll want to take pictures in every floor. I payed a little fee to take pictures so I didn’t feel any guards chasing me as I read on another review. The expositions were about mexican culture without showing much about colonists as the exhibit in Chapultepec castle. You need at least 3 hours to visit it entirely.

Probably one of the most beautiful buildings in the city

You need a special permission for the photos, only 5 pesos, ask at the cashier if they don't tell you, or you'll have to go back. A part of the museum is closed for the visitors now. It has nice periodical exhibitions. You will find also the Telegraph Museum on the ground floor.

It's worth it just to see the building! But staff was friendly and its a decent reminder some form of this city has been here for 500 years.

This is my favorite Museum in Mexico City, maybe it’s the palatial facade? Most probably it’s the Grand staircase tho. The painted ceiling is a dream right out of imperial Britan, or something you’d see in Vienna. Very highly recommendable and a must see in the city.

Absolute must visit place for art lovers. It's well maintained place with good collection. On Sundays admissions are free and the photography charge of MX $ 5 us charged if you want to take pictures.
Had art content from 16th century up to now ..some Rivera paintings were on display. They had fashion items from past and few sculptures as well. I enjoyed this place and suggest around 4 hours if you are keen to learn about the artists.
