Casa Lulú Coyoacán

Honestly, it is one of my favourite places to stay in Mexico! I have been here 3 years in a row and I would come back again and again and again. They have lots of activities going on, like yoga, cacao ceremonies and there is even a tattoo studio. The house really is one of a kind! I was very surprised to read the bad reviews, I guess the other guests have changed as it has been my most peaceful stay outside the hustle and bustle of the centre! Thank you Casa Lulu <3

I adored my stay here - It was my first time in Mexico and Vianey and the team were wonderful hosts - they were always on hand to share advice and helped me make the most of my trip. The house is beautiful and in a great location. It felt like an oasis - I can't wait to return!

I loved my stay at Casa Lulu! the home is in a very charming neighborhood of Mexico City (Coyoacan) and the home itself is has beautiful design from the 70s, from the stones used, to the winding staircase that is central to the home. The rooms are spacious and clean, and I really enjoyed having access to multiple work spaces, like the dining room, garden, and terrace...and I always looked forward to the fresh breakfast!

Excelente ubicación en una casona de los años 70s/80s para pasar unos días agradables en el mágico barrio de coyoacan.

Exelente atención y servicio, muy comoda la estancia, un jardín precioso muy recomendable.

Exquisito lugar, el mejor ambiente y la mejor ubicación

More of a badly run hostal. Very strict breakfasts and very noisy roommates at all hours. The cook/cleaning woman is very intense and unfriendly. The worst part of this entirely unpleasant experience is that I was ripped off by Vianey. She doesn’t seem like a bad person but clearly had some demons and blind spots she’s not confronting. Don’t trust these people.

I had a very difficult experience with this property. I transferred a 50% deposit a week in advance, then notified the owner several days ahead that I needed to shorten my stay. She repeatedly claimed she had not received the payment, even though my bank showed it was received.

When I arrived at the property, she was not there (there’s no reception desk so there was no one to help me)—even though I told her what time I would arrive and a sent a message when I left the airport. I sat outside with my suitcases for 40 minutes before she responded to my calls and texts, telling me she would come to the hotel and check me in if I paid cash (even though I already paid by transfer) because she had not received the money.

Several days later she “suddenly” discovered she received the money (?!), but claimed the deposit generated VAT taxes which would be deducted from any refund. It took a lot of back and forth before she finally agreed to send a refund, I had to follow up multiple times over several days. And of course she sent it by PayPal choosing the method where it charged ME the fees (so it ended up being 200 pesos less than what I paid her).

What I don’t understand is why she didn’t show up to receive me at the hotel, when I had already paid and she knew I was coming—she could have told me in advance if she didn’t plan to honor my reservation. And why she overlooked (or lied) about not receiving the deposit when I sent the official receipt from my bank.

She didn’t seem like a bad person, but the whole thing was super confusing and a huge headache after a long day of traveling to a new city. I was willing to work with her when I changed my plans, even though she didn’t tell me about her policy of 2-night minimum and no cancellations up front, but she really blew it by leaving me stranded upon arrival. Really, who does that??

Honestly I was happy to find a different hotel after all this happened—the place was kinda creepy, a big old building with a winding staircase, no one around, a tattoo shop on the lower level. Definitely not a professionally run accommodation from my first impression.

My advice: proceed with caution, check it out in person first before booking to make sure everything is clear.

I had a really terrible experience here that I will write more about when I have the time.

Unclean and very noisy. Not worth the money.
