Starting point for hiking the national park. Register at the center first where you will find information about the park flora and fauna. Bathrooms in the parking area for 10 pesos.

This was a marvelous road trip with my mother. It's about 90 minutes to 2 hours from Mexico City depending on traffic. No pets allowed but there were a lot of dogs anyhow. The visitor center was closed unfortunately and appears to be in some state of interior redesign. There are a LOT of roadside food grills to stop in if you're hungry. Lots of hiking opportunities and easy to get to - just drive carefully on the winding road. It's well maintained but the parking lot has a lot of deep gullies that can trap or damage a small car. Be careful where you park. Overall, highly recommended.

It's an amazing place to visit. Great views, panoramic experiences, an incredible weather.
I'm not an expert in this area, so I recommend to check out the instructions from a professional to the ascending walk: be prepared to walk a lot; don't take heavy backpacks.
You'll enjoy a magnificent and mesmerizing encounter with nature.

We went with an local guide who became our friend. We traveled from Mexico city to this beautiful national park, which I can't pronounce 🤣. We didn't see the volcano itself, but saw the smog coming from the vulcano. The park is very high, so if you're coming from a place where you are around sea level it will be pretty hard.

Did a guided tour with Que Loco Tours from Mexico City. It was a wonderful experience seeing this part of Mexico. The volcano erupted a few times when we were there and it was amazing to see!

Great experience. Well managed park
with a couple good hikes. Definitely go if you're in the area. Amazing views. You can get up in collectivos from Amecameca to the West, via public transport from CDMX or Xalitzintla from the East via Cholula/ Puebla

Nothing compares to walking towards great peaks ... narrow paths at some points, beautiful flora everywhere... some oxygen struggles... crazy 9km car road after the public road which is already quite adventurous... it is all worth it... simply astonishing sensation of being close to clouds and seing the popo on one side and the izta on the other... a lifetime experience and one that will question your strenght, commitment and passion. Please respect yourself and treat nature as your mother, source of life.

The Best Hiking Until Date.

Once you have reached the top
3 Hour Hike Uphill, 3 Hour Hike Downhill.

But, once on top, and seeing this spectacular view, it’s all worth it. Nature at is very, very best. The trail is hidden, Very hidden you need a Profesional Tour Guide for sure.

This park is great if you like to hike and really see nice landscape beautiful natural views found no where else. On the other hand if you like mountain climbing this is also great to be able to reach 5300 meters above the see level. Very nice and secure park. I was going to Orizaba peak but looks like as today security is a concern around that peak. At Izta we were able to go up to a "refugio" and leave our stuff there alone while we reach the summit when we decended our stuff were safe and sound even when other people passed by no one touched our unattended thing. That is the kind of culture and spirit you like to find. Highly recommend this park.

Rad hike. It's super high elevation though so be sure to acclimate if you have the time.

Incredible hike. Start early, wear good hiking boots, bring plenty of water, light snacks, good hiking pants for flexibility and protection from sharp rocks, protection from dust, good gay for sub protection or plenty of sunscreen.

Amazing view from up here. Drive up from Puebla side is on un adopted road (dirt track), but worth it. Can get very cold so prepare as wind will drop temperatures.

Absolutely a delight! Go out from Mexico City and explore. Take a hike and walk through the forest! Enjoy the scenery. Bring sunscreen, bug spray and first aid. The usual outdoor stuff!

A must to see in the area. The pass can be reached from Puebla or Mexico but it's road from Mexico while it's a track from Puebla. That said you go with normal car. You can do easy hike from the pass from 2h or more...
