Restaurante El Cardenal

My favourite breakfast restaurant in the world. Refined service, incredible food, fresh and hot concha buns, hot chocolate frothed table side. I love everything about El Cardenal and it is a must-visit every time I come to CDMX.

Exceptional value. This is the traditional Mexican cuisine I have spent so much time learning about and we are so lucky to have found it early on in our trip. We returned three times to experience these high quality meals. All of the staff love what they’re serving and are more than happy to explain each dish in detail. I would be a regular if I lived here. 😭

Outstanding Mexican food and cocktails in a beautiful setting with fantastic service.

While you will find here many of the most classic Mexican dishes, much attention is paid to quality and freshness. The freshly baked bread buns, dipped in Salsa Verde are to die for!

The fantastic range of Tequila and Mezcal based cocktails shouldn’t be missed! Try the cactus fruit (Tuna) sorbet with Mezcal!

In September this is a great place to enjoy the Chiles en Nogada, which are in season.

The robolo (seabass) fish was great! I had it sautéed with garlic & dried red pepper. The chicken Mole was outstanding (and I am not a fan of Mole but I did like the taste of this one). The ambiance is warm. You can have mariachi play table side (at your request for a set fee). Overall it was a great experience with very tasty food.

If I could give this restaurant 6 starts I would.
The food is amazing and the service too. The bread is fresh baked. They are really proud about the milk they used which is fresh.

Definitely worth a visit when you are in Mexico City. You should always be prepared for a waiting time of about 45 minutes. It is definitely worth the wait. Very good service, delicious and large selection of dishes in a nice and cozy atmosphere. The prices are absolutely fine and reasonable compared to the quality. I will definitely come again.

Okay, this is a must for anyone visiting the city. It felt like we dined at someone's family home - The quantity is fabulous, the quality is simple like home cooked food, and the service is lightning fast. Can't recommend this enough.

Delicious mexican cuisine, the best brekfast in town. It is very crowdy during mornings. The bread and coffee are unique, with a nice atmosphere, very recommended for families.

They have amazing dishes and really above average service. I mean the staff and servers were just excellent! We absolutely loved the food as well.

It just so happens that we came during the Mexican independence month and the unique seasonal dish called "Chile de en Nogada" (sic) was available and it was a knockout! Thank you so much El Cardenal!

By the way, the decor is fantastic inside as well. Majestic and peaceful. Beautiful and lovely to be in.

wonderful purely because of it's true Mexican spirit that permeates deeply in their food and service. arrive 30 min before your expected time, it's always packed.

Very nice location. Food was very good. I had the traditional tortilla soup to start and the mixihote de borrego.

Authentic and delicious Mexican food, one of my favorite restaurants in Mexico city . Don't forget to get sweet bread with natas for breakfast. And highly recommend getting escamoles (ant larvae) when in season.
