Oxkintok could be translated from Yucatec Mayan, depending on the meaning, as "Three days of flint" or "Three sharp suns"
It is located in the territory of the municipality of Maxcanú.

Here the Oxkintok lineages ruled and reigned.

The tourist workers, who met us at the entrance, were very happy when we arrived because this place is visited by very few tourists and is almost unknown.
They told us that the Mexican authorities don't even provide enough funds to revitalize and decorate the entire complex.
Even the road we drove there was not paved. We already had light off road...
Tickets are cheap, only €4, in contrast to Chichen Itza, where we paid €35 per capita or Uxmal for €30.

We visited 5 cities along the Ruta Puuc. They are all amazing on a lot of levels but Oxkintok might be the best because of its remoteness and size. We were almost alone as we discovered the many buildings.
Be careful: google took us to a small town, then to a construction site. We only found Oxkintok when we were on our way to Uxmal and saw the signs.

It's an interesting place full of history. Unfortunately there are a few pyramids that are cover by the jungle and looks that there are no plans to do work on them. I highly recommend to go visit this Mayan site

This site was across many miles and totally different from the other sites I've been to. The history of this site is very interesting and unusual for the period.

These ruins are not heavily visited but they are definitely worth seeing. You have to know they are there. We were the only visitors when we arrived. There was only one employee on site who collected a nominal admission. It is a pleasure to tour the several ruins without having to dodge other visitors taking selfies.

What a beautiful archeological site. The guide service for tourists is excellent. There is much to see here. Unlike other sites such as Xlapak the structures have a more careful look, however it is necessary to remove some weeds since it favors the appearance of mosquitoes that disturb those who come to visit

This is a very nice place, unfortunately it seems that it doesn't get the amount of visitors it deserves. The ruins here are really extensive. They also have a labyrinth, but unfortunately, it is closed off to the visitors. It would be nice to see some more money put into this place to make it an attraction the likes of Tulum or Chichen Itza.

One of many arquelogical places visited. Wishes we could have entered the laberinto but there is a good May Geo documentary on it. Watch it before going!

A remote site. Access roads are poor to awful. Well worth the effort when you reach the ruins. There were only half a dozen people there during our visit.

Oxkintok is a mayan prehispanic site, it has buildings with architecture Puuc and has an amazing building know as Satusat. This building is a kind of labyrinth that has been associated with the Mayan cosmovision towards the underworld. Its an amazing place!! :-D

You should visit this site. I hope INAH could provide more money to preserve and make a museum here :)
