Surprisingly good archaeological displays with English descriptions for 90% of them. We came to see the fort but spent a couple hours viewing the museum.

This was absolutely amazing! We stayed in Campeche over the weekend. There is so much to see that we couldn't see it in 2 days. The history of the Fort, the views from inside the fort walls are breath taking!

Very well preserved piece of history.
Building is in great shape. Lots of cannons from above.
The grounds are free to explore without paying a fee, which can be just as fun if you’re not looking to see the Mayan exhibits inside. Lots of great Mayan art and history in exhibitions.
Not a lot of history on the actual building or the people who made it, which I was hoping there would be.

Beautiful views of the Gulf from the top.

You can do this in about an hour.

Nice small museum on the outskirts of Campeche. Actually the Maya-exhibit was one of the best I have seen in Yucatan. It's small, but with its focus on the actual life (and not just architecture, as many others!) of ancient Mayans it really painted a picture of this old civilisation and it's people, more than other museums. Good thing to do when you have seen the old town in Campeche already!

This is the first time I've gone to a Mayan museum. The artifacts were intriguing and oneof a kind. The fort itself was very impressive. With a multitude of cannons. Very well kept.

Beautifully documented in Spanish and there’s also a decent number of English translations. An incredible wealth of artifacts from Campenche’s Mayan past. Jade funeral mask, pottery, stonework, one wood carving (very unusual) burial offerings, artwork.

What a fantastic place to inmerse in the Maya culture, quick but very complete. It's a very thorough glimpse of the rise and demise of the Maya civilization explained with artifacts and very easy to comprehend texts. Excellent for families as its quick for the little ones. The cultural ministry did a great job here!

The Fort has been well restored but the reason to visit is the amazing collection of Mayan artifacts - excellent little museum:

If you like history, Campeche is a great place to visit. Most of the wall and the forts from the pirate days are perfectly preserved. There are many museums you can visit for little or no money to learn the history of the city.
Campeche has an exceptional mix of old and new architecture.
