Casa Balam Sisal - Hostel and Tours

This hippie place is very cool for camping. They have the minimum services but the service with Felipe was super cool. Sisal really worth it too. They didn’t had hot water but it was bad luck. The beach is nearby and downtown too.

A really nice place. Planned camping here for 1 night, ended up being 5. Has everything you need, offers tourist tours which are amazing, cool decorations and a lovely owner. Thanks Walter!

Really nice hostel with an amazing atmosphere. You will feel disconnected from the busy life you normally live but feel an enhanced connection with the nature and people around you. Coming here takes a bit of effort but that's why I think it is a really special place.

If you're looking for a niche quiet get away in a historic seaside mexican town then Casa Balam is for you. Walter & Natasha greet you very warmly into their place with a very "mi casa es tu casa" vibe. You have the option to sleep in one of 4 hammocks inside or pitch or borrow a tent outside. Walter will cook a fresh fish either asado (over the fire) or frita (fried) take a look at my picture of the huge fish he cooked up for us. Walter is a biologist and is very enthusiastic about the local nature reserve and will take you on a tour on his boat/paddle-board/ kayak to show you some of his work & go croc hunting.

His place is cosy and is in my idea the perfect stop for backpackers.

If I'm ever again in the area I will be visiting again. Thank you for the hospitality!

Walter's hostel in Sisal was perfect for me during my 3 night stay there on the NW coast of Yucatán. The vibes were super friendly and warm, my bed in a shared room was comfy and having use of the kitchen was really helpful. It's only a couple blocks from the stop for the bus to Mérida, a couple blocks from a great Panucho restaurant and just a 5 minutes or so walk to the beach. The municipal market's pretty close by too. No problems at all with the wifi and owner Walter also runs great tours into the Reserva El Palmar. I took part in the evening flamingo sighting and loved it.....as it was my first time seeing the magnificent birds. Highly recommended!

Un lugar Incleíble para pasar tiempo en la naturaleza, especialmente en los manglares y el guía Walter tiene mucho conocimiento y ama lo que hace!!
Los tours son inimaginables porque son reservas naturales y hay muchísimo ecosistema. Super recomendado y una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida!

Súper recomendable para hacer ecoturismo, nosotros tomamos el paquete que incluye hospedaje, excursiones y comida y fue la mejor decisión, walter es un súper anfitrión siempre atento y compartiéndonos historias del lugar.
Las excursiones con guías muy experimentados que cuidaban todos los detalles y que te hacen enamorarte de Sisal.
Sin duda volveremos para disfrutar de más naturaleza y comida deliciosa.

El conocimiento que tiene Walter sobre las reservas naturales del Sisal se nota.
Los lugares a los que nos llevó son poco conocidos por los demás, y por lo mismo tienen ese aire como si fueran exclusivos para uno mismo.
En cualquier punto del viaje que te detengas hay una vista increíble y pareciera que estás en un nuevo lugar, también se sienten una paz y tranquilidad increíbles, no hay mejor contacto con la naturaleza que este.
Definitivamente es una experiencia que volvería a repetir, súper recomendable para ir en grupo.
Los costos son super accesibles, sin lugar a dudas el tour vale más de lo que cuesta.

He tomado dos tours con dos guías diferentes y han sido unas experiencias inolvidables! Definitivamente voy a regresar para los otros tours que ofrecen. Ademas, el dinero se queda en la comunidad y se dedican a la preservación de la naturaleza! Por favor apoyen!!!

Casa Balam es un gran lugar. Nos resivieron de una forma muy amable y nos enseñaron muy buenos lugares . Muy buen lugar para estar en armonia en la playa y el pueblo de Sisal . Tienen bicicletas que eso ayuda mucho a la movilidad . El lugar de Camping, la cocina muy completo . Gracias ! 🙂

Estuvimos recorriendo toda la zona y el anfitrión conoce todos los lugares más místicos ,este lugar tiene una historia increíble desde los mayas hasta los piratas . Yo solo iba un día y me quedé mas de una semana . Gracias a Walter , increíble humano

Conocer la playa, los manglares , manantiales , flamencos, aves de diferentes tipos , la selva entre manglares además de snorkel. La mejor experiencia sin duda

Excelente atención, a pesar de ser el único hostal en el pueblo. La pasas muy bien, como en casa. El guía te explica todo lo que le preguntes y más, muy amable.

Sisal es increíble, una playa que todo mundo debe conocer pero con respeto por la naturaleza y el paisaje. Sin duda, uno de mis lugares favoritos, lo cual, sumado a la estadía en Casa Balam, hicieron perfecto nuestra estancia. Volveríamos a ir y sin dudarlo volveríamos a acampar aquí 🐆🐆🐆

Het hostel zelf is primitief, maar hierdoor ook een bijzondere ervaring. De uitbater Walter zorgt voor prachtige en zeer informatieve tours met veel mogelijkheid om de lokale bevolking te leren kennen. Daarnaast is hij zeer gastvrij en klantvriendelijk en zorgt hij ervoor dat je echt een toffe ervaring hebt

Increíble. Pasamos una estancia excelente, nos recomendaron un tour por los manglares de Sisal que estuvo genial.. colocamos nuestra casa de acampar, pudimos realizar una parrillada deliciosa, durante la noche una fogata y pasar una velada magnífica.. excelente atención ...
