This is the best out of all the sites in and around Inle Lake... IMPO. Its hauntedness is its charm, newly surrected stupas stand among old ruins. If there is only one place to see for your trip to Inle Lake, Shwe Inn Dein Pagoda has gotta be it. The river path off the lake to the pagoda is one delightful journey.

This pagoda was really beautiful and amazing!
You’re trip to Inle lake is incomplete if you don’t visit here!
Coming here usually needs an extra fee and you should ask the boat driver beforehand.
Prices are 20k to 25k including Shwe Inn Dein Pagoda

20 minutes walk up the hill from the entrance st the bridge (covered corridor with hundreds of pillars) leads you to a stunning place of 1000+ pagodas, bricks made, many shining gold on the top of the hill. Definitely unique and worth visiting.

The golden stupas are amazing, but the old and kind of abandoned ones on the outskirt of the Pagoda are somehow more attracted to me.

A must visit to In Dein village. We took a bike tour from Aungpan(near Kalaw) to the pagodas and then take the boat trip to Ngyaung Shwe. Both the bike and boat trip were great with different view to the Inle lake. Recommend to experience both!

Small version of Kakku ruin. The pagoda itself is unique Shan style. You can access by boat and it's also good to travel in canal. The car hire from boat jetty cost a lot. Try motor cycle or come by car.

When you finish visiting this stuppas go through to the other side entrance you will see a golden stuppa on a small hill just in front of this entrance. Take the right hand road and go up (7 min) you will have a nice view on the stuppas and the mountains don t miss that

Very very very nice out there. Many small shops but no one asking you to buy something.
The Pagoda itself is worth to walk up the way, about 1000m from the pier.

👍✨

Lake Inle can be an excellent base for day tours to the various attractions of this region of Myanmar, and a trip to Shwe Indein Pagoda, before a short cruise in the lake watching for fishermen at work.

It is assumed that the temple of Shwe Indein has over 1600 stupas, though an exact estimation can not be made because many of them are totally destroyed, while others were swallowed by vegetation. The place is full of charm and mystery, and the whole is surrounded by a picturesque landscape.

Such a hidden gem. We took a boat here and almost got sidetracked by some ruins on the way up so almost didn't make it to the main site - make sure you keep walking all the way to the end of the walkway to get to the main be pagoda. The site is really unbelievable and breathtaking, the pagodas are all colors, sizes, and in different states. It's honestly hard to capture in photos so if you can bring a GoPro or something with a really wide angle lens.

A must visit list

One of a kind a group of Buddhist pagodas in the village of Indein, near Yeama and Inlay Lake in Shan State.

The pagodas were commissioned during the reign of King Narapati Sithu.

A+++

Hundreds of pagodas, more or less old. A nice moment walking in a quiet and religious area. By respecting the site ( don't climb, grab some pieces of rocks, stay quiet) you will enjoy this moment and can pick some good pictures, playing at hide and seek with the sun. On the other side of the long market you will find some quite old stupas and pagodas. The shops are known to sell fake antiquities and gems.
I didn't pay 500 kyat... nobody ask me. Just follow your way

If you don't come here on your day boat trip around Inle Lake, you are missing out on arguably its best area. A "mini Bagan" with stupas galore, the environs around the main pagoda are picturesque and can be calm and soothing - assuming you arrive before the other tourists.

A very unique cluster of pagodas not frequently found elsewhere. The extra cost of the boat ride (K5000pp) was worth it to Inn Dein and quite fun to go through small riverways. Entrance is free but K500 for camera. Lots of souvenir stands on the 20 minute, covered and inclined walkway.

The whole area is quite big so it would take like 2-3 hours wandering around. Lots of nice stuff to see. So many ancient stupas.

This place is very beautiful and actually we enjoyed the boat ride to the place a lot. The speed boat cruising in narrow water channel was exciting. You can go on foot to the pagoda and it will take around 20-25 minutes of very easy Hike, or you can take bike taxi for around 3000 kyats.

The complex have so many small pagodas and surrounding areas are very green.

One of the most amazing places I've ever seen. The best way is to arrive by boat in the afternoon, the light is better and there are less tourists. When you are up there, just walk through the pagodas and enjoy them

From Nyaung Ohak a climb leads to the second group of pagodas named Shwe Inn Thein located on top of a hill. A 700 meter covered walkway leads up to the pagodas. The walkway is lined with stalls where vendors sell Shan shoulder bags, longyis, shirts and other items.

The site is believed to date back to the days of the Indian emperor Ashoka, who sent out monks in the 3rd century BC across Asia to spread Buddhism. Centuries later two Kings of the Bagan empire, Narapatisithu and Anawrahta built pagodas at the site. The site contains hundreds of pagodas, collectively known as the Shwe Inn Thein pagodas. Most are from the 17th and 18th century; the earliest one with an inscription dates to the 14th century.

The hti, a top element shaped like an ornamental umbrella is missing at many of the unrestored stupas. A number of stupas have been restored by donors, both Burmese and foreign.

At the center of the Shwe Inn Thein group is the shrine of the Inn Thein Buddha image. The shrine that is believed to have been built by King Ashoka houses a golden Buddha image in the meditation mudra. From the top of the hill visitors have great views of Indein village and the surrounding area.
The village is located about 8 kilometers West of the South tip of Inle Lake. It is most easily reached by boat. Tickets can be booked at travel agent or hotel. Alternatively, head for the pier and negotiate a price. Make sure to agree on the places to stop and the duration of the trip.

Thousand of pagodas, old and new, pack on the hill, leading to the main Shwe In Dein Paya.
Travel to this site is like journey back to the past.
