Taourirt Kasbah

Another fantastic stop on our tour day. This is an outstanding building, in the city of Ouarzazate and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is worth visiting to discover its rich decor.

Many blockbuster films have been shot there. Such as The Gladiator, The Last Temptation of Christ and The Mummy to name a few!
Very well worth seeing.

As in the museum opposite you have the impression of being in the film "Fort Sagan".
What I can't understand is why the Casbah on the left is completely abandoned, what are the Moroccan archaeological services doing which seems ghostly?

Amazing architectural structure, worth visiting and checking all the intricate rooms and towers designs. Better go with a guide and pay attention to not get lost in the many staircases and doors inside. You can buy paintins and take photos of the nice surrounding views.

One of the best and oldest museum in Morocco and located in ouarzazate.

Fabulous, OMG if you visit marrackech it's a must place to go. But the day trip is 70precrnt driving and 30precent sightseeing. Very important to know.

One of the best place to visit in ouarzazate city. Historic kasbah. You should have camera with you to take good pictures. And ask for guide to know correct history of this nice place. Have nice visit 😊 enjoy

UNESCO site, our tour was from a family who lived there until 1986 when most locals moved across the river. The information he gave was educational and showed his love for his heritage, he was 20. Besides the views, I enjoyed the artist using an ancient process to paint then set the colors.

Well worth the 20 dirhams it costs to enter. Large kasbah in which it is easy to get lost in (if you do, just ask the nearest of the local guides). You can enjoy nice interior of some rooms which have been renovated and the gorgeous views outside.

Interesting historic fortified residence complex. Lot of stories and meaning inside of each room and architect design.

Beautiful Kasbah, the building is like a maze with lots of small rooms and passageways. Would be fun to play here as a kid. 20DH entry fees

Taourirt Kasbah, a citadel set against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, built in the 17th century by the Glaoui tribe. It is famous for its antiquity as it was one of the first great Berber pieces of architectures to be constructed. Designed out of blocks of dried soil and straw and coated with a mixture of raw soil and lime, the Kasbah of Taourirt is carfully painted with geometric designs.

You’ll be led through a labyrinth of passages and rooms once inside. There were approximately 300 rooms in the Kasbah in total.

The Atlas Mountains in Morocco is the best hike I've had in a long time. The Moroccan people are so kind and hospitable.

Ouarzazate's only real sight of historical interest is the former el Glaoui palace, the Taourirt Kasbah . Kasbahs are a huge part of visiting Morocco - loved visiting Taourirt Kasbah built in the 19th century and reached the height of importance during the 1930s.
The kasbah today is partly ruined. You can only enter the former palace from the main entrance, however. The palace has been restored, with assistance from UNESCO, and it is this section of the kasbah that visitors are shown

The place looks like a labyrinth ! It's super amazing, many places to visit in the Kasbah, the stairs everywhere, the doors are tiny, and architecture is pretty interesting, it's not just squares and rooms, it's more than that

The old Kasbah is the highlight of Ouarzazate. In November 2022 parts were closed for renovation.

It was an honour to visit this place. There were so many amazing things. For instance, you see it is an old castle 🏰 with magnificent towers and layouts. Also, shop/stools selling berber clothes and costumes. It's a very nice place with nice people. The people are very courteous and friendly. It's definitely worth a visit if any of you happened to be in Ouarzazate.

Well preserved ancient stronghold with the maze of chambers and leaving rooms. Great overlook. Changing idea about life in old times.

Huge Warren of tunnels to explore, but worth the time, just wonder around by yourself after paying 20 durams
