Almost all animals of Sri Lanka are here so if you have little time and had to chose between all the safaris, probably take this one. Always take a guide to understand what you should look at and what you are seeing.

One of the best national parks in both Asia and Sri Lanka to see wild animals in their natural habitats.
Also, one of best places to see Sri Lankan leopards.
Other than the leopards, you get to see many more wild animals like bears, elephants, crocodiles, deers and etc.

Better to go early in the morning for the game drives as it is fresher; national park opens at 6am.

Oldest and largest national park in srilanka by size. Established in 1938 and provides habitat for numerous flora and fauna in srilanka. Boarders indian ocean from south, Kumana national park from northeast and Lunugamwehera national park from west.

Srilankan elephants are a sure sighting in herds, alongside crocodiles, wild boar, deer and stags. Highlight of the park is the Srilankan leopard, which is the largest wild cat species in srilanka.

The park is devided into five blocks, 1 to 5, only one or two blocks are available at any given time for safaris. Tickets for safaris and entry to the park can be obtained from any of the three entrances, namely Palatupana, Katagamuwa and Galge. Total area is close to 160000 hectare. There are also many ancient buddhist ruins and places of worship inside the park which are not allowed for visitors.

This is the most famous national park in Sri Lanka. Park is very large and only a small section is accessible to general public for safari. It’s well known for leopards. Since the park has a higher density of leopards there’s a high chance of spotting one.
In our safari we were fortunate enough to spot one leopard. Other than leopards you can witness bears, elephants as well. Peacocks will be everywhere. Luckily we could see one doing its mating dance. There are many boats, deer, and samber deer as well.
We visited early morning around 6am. There’s a resting area inside the jungle at a beautiful beach. You can take some nice pictures as well.
For safari Jeep it costed us 5000 rupees and the entrance ticket for 4 of us came closer to 1000.
Highly recommended place to have a nice safari experience.

We saw 7 leopards on our evening safari, including 3 cubs with their mother! A great tour, with elephants and a range of birds etc. we were not as lucky in the morning - but safari is always a gamble.

filled with hope and excitement when visiting. it's well-run to say the least but didn't get to see as much animals as I would like to - mostly water buffaloes in man made holes. manage to catch some nice sunset though. still an enjoyable ride in the park.

An interesting place for safari trips with friends. Many interesting things can be seen and discussed among themselves. The main thing, when you go there in the morning, do not forget to wear a warm sweater and pants, because there it was unexpectedly cold for such a climate.

Ideal national park to see the Sri Lankan leopards. Usually you can see peacocks, deer, few elephants. And if you have the luck bear and leopards. Usually drivers run scams on tourist here while running shorter durations for higher prices. If you're a tourist try to accompany a known local to communicate with the driver. Public services such toilets and water facilities are not maintained and below standard.

A very nice and cool environment. If u want to watch leopards, then this is the place you are looking for. There are wide variation of animals including birds too. Lots of elephants are there too. If u enter the jungle before 6 a. m, then you would probably be able to watch a leopard. Bears also live in here. They usually come out of the deep jungle to eat a seasonal food named 'palu'. If u are lucky and arrive in the times of palu season, then you will be able to watch a bear too.
