Christ Church Warleigh in Dickoya, Sri Lanka was built in 1878 by William Scott. The church is built on the lines of typical old British church architecture. The unique feature of the church is the Bible in use which was brought to the church when its building was completed. Thus the Bible is nearly 150 years old and probably the oldest bible in Sri Lanka.

Unnoticed amazing place just by the road to Maskeliya. Open for anyone. Very well kept preserved and maintained up to date both Building, Interior and Garden.
Located on a cliff bank facing Castlereagh Reservoir. Amazing view. The Church's architecture is beautiful both inside and outside. Includes amazing stained glass decorated windows. A authentic pipe organ is still in use. Hats off for the curators who preserved the place without making it a business.

A small, peaceful and beautiful church (or chapel) overlooking the Castlereagh Reservoir. I always visit this church when I am in the area as my Great Grandfather is buried there. The old organ still works, the stained glass windows are stunning and a very old Bible is on display

Ancient British Church of historical importance
Our group of seventeen travelling together as a group visited the Walreigh Church at Dickoya along Hatton - Norwood Road in the morning on 27th March 2021. Our group leader, Padmini, had pre-arranged and obtained permission to enter the compound and to be shown around this quaint little church.
This Church built by the British in 1878 is one of the oldest and prominent Anglican churches in Sri Lanka. It had been built with granite stone blocks now looking ash coloured. The Church is scenically located surrounded by tea estates and borders the Castlereigh lake. The caretaker and sexton Mr Felix Coulton welcomed us, took us in and described its history. Many tombstones of British Planters lie at the cemetery surrounding the church.

A bible printed around 1865 and presented to the church in 1879 occupies the pride of place near the pulpit. The stained-glass windows, with Jesus paintings, are attractive and livens the church interior. An old ancient church organ adorns the entrance. Wooden church benches and the pulpit too appear ancient. Floral tiles, imported from England, are laid out on the floor.

We greatly enjoyed the visit to this church located in picture-postcard surrounds. Here, I felt a feeling of nostalgia of what it would have been!

A beautiful, small and calming it's a type of church that you might have seen in English movies. Inside the church you can see a church organ which is very rare to find in Sri Lankan church. Also there's a copy of very old Holy Bible that was printed in 18th century. This is a church of the Church of Ceylon or Anglican Church of Sri Lanka.

Built in 1878, by the governor William Scott, and luckily preserved during the construction of Castlereigh reservoir in 1965 this small church is seated at the edge of Castlereigh reservoir by the Hatton-Maskeliya road. This small ancient granite building houses one of the very few pipe organs in the country and an old Bible dated 1879. Stone building has windows with spectacular glass paintings which will leave you mesmerized.
A must visit if you are in the area. Ample parking is available by the road and the church is only open from 7 AM to 4 PM.

There was a caretaker when we arrived and he advised us not to take photographs of the church not because of anything but cause people have been using the place for tourism business and other events etc.
He was kind enough to let us inside which was amazing and mesmerizing. He said that we can take the picture of the ancient bible which was printed in 1860s and presented to the church in 1879.

A cemetery with tombstones of English colonial tea planters is next to the church. Surrounding was well kept and cleaned. You can over see the Castlereagh Reservoir from there also.

Amazing place. One of the prominent and oldest Anglican Church in Sri Lanka. Antique furniture, pipe organ and colorful window glasses with painting are some of the highlights. But the main artifact is the oldest Bible in Sri Lanka. A must visit. But photography is not allowed.
