This is an important place in Sri Lanka, as this area was a reason for the commencement of the Humanitarian Mission. (This is not the anicut closed by LTTE)

There are two access roads to this place. But it is recommended to use the road near the camp of the Civil Security Defense. The road is suitable for off-road vehicles since there are many pits on it and it is a little bit slippery. Please be vigilant, as you may meet elephants and crocodiles while on the way to the place.

Once you get there, you will find beautiful surroundings.

A a peaceful and awe-inspiring location in Sri Lanka; Mavil Aru is definitely worth a visit. The area has a desert-like climate, but we were lucky enough to experience some unexpected rain, which only added to the magical atmosphere. As we wandered down the road, we were struck by the feeling of being in the middle of a forest, with only a few people in sight.
The highlight of the area is undoubtedly the well-maintained anicut, which was deserted but nonetheless breathtaking. From there, we ventured into a huge area where water and buffalos coexisted harmoniously, with various water flowers adding to the stunning vista.

Near the entrance to the anicut, we were treated to a mystical and magical atmosphere, thanks to the stunning display of stacked water plants and flowers. However, we were also reminded to be cautious due to the presence of crocodiles in the area.

Overall, Mavil Aru is an awe-inspiring location that is well worth the visit.

( Editted some parts of my review as I have mistaken the 'Mavil Aru Anicut' with 'Mavil Aru waterway' ) - please note that, there are two separate places very close to each other and the Marvil Aru waterway is the historical location regarding the LTTE terrorism.
