Hummanaya Blow Hole

Nice place, with peaceful surroundings. Not much of a busy area. The blowhole and nearby beach are also good to see and pictures. Good scenic place for photo lovers.

We can't see the water blow all the time. Better to confirm with the place before going.

The Hummanaya Blow Hole, situated along Sri Lanka's southern coast, stands as the second largest blow hole globally and the largest within the island itself. Tucked in Kudawella, a short distance past bus line Matara to Tangalle, this natural marvel awaits exploration. Embark on a serene 5-10 minute walk through a charming village adorned with local vendors offering handicrafts, street fare, and refreshing drinks. As you approach the entrance, rugged pathways guide your journey toward this majestic attraction. Here, amidst the crashing waves, the blow hole reveals its splendor, casting sea water upwards of 80 – 100 feet into the sky. Optimal viewing is during high tide when the salty mist envelops spectators. Admission rates are accessible, with local adults charged at 50 LKR and foreign adults at 500 LKR. Ensure the Hummanaya Blow Hole is on your itinerary while venturing through Mirissa—it's an experience not to be missed!

Place was a beautiful and clean. Beach was a very clear. You need to park your vehicle and go nearly around 300 m in foot path after that have a stair also. My opinion is evening is the suitable time to went there. The height of the water column depends on the nature of the sea wave.

We stopped at the Hummanaya Blow Hole on our way to Weligama and it was a great decision. U have to pay about 500rp to get in but there’s a guide at the top who was very helpful in telling us when the water was about to come up. We went during February and the water wasn’t coming up very high but still a nice experience.

Hummanaya is a cool place to visit! 🌊 It has a natural blowhole that's really awesome, and you can hear the waves hitting the rocks, which is pretty mesmerizing. One of the beautiful tourists destination in down south. You have to walk about 300 m to see this wonderful place. Privet parking facility available.
It is best to visit from July to September to see large water height. Normally when waiting 20-30 minutes you can see several big water blowings.

One of my favourite tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. You need to go there through a local village where you can get food drinks or souvenirs.
To entry the Blow Hole you need to pay fees. It was a small amount. Before the Blow Hole, there is a small beach if you want to swim.

A natural wonder in Tangalle

I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Hummanaya natural blowhole in Tangalle and it left me in awe! This natural wonder is a must-visit for everyone exploring the beauty of Southern coast.

The location is well maintained, with accessible pathways and safety measures in place.

Very nice experience. This rocks are made naturally but they charge ticket since they are maintaining and they have put barricades for safety up there. This Blow hole phenomenon is much beautiful when there is high tide. one can spot Peacock and Monitor Lizard on the way. So be careful.
Ticket are there 500LKR for Foreigners.

Very beautiful place with a fascinating natural spectacle. There's a lovely small beach at the entrance after buying the ticket. Entry costs 250 rupees for tourists, adults, and children pay half. The place is suitable for visiting with children.

Hummanaya Blowhole is the only known blowhole in Sri Lanka and it is considered to be the second largest blowhole in the world.

One of miracle creation of nature. Sea water is uplifted natural stone cannel. As a result, beautiful water mist uplifted time to time. Safe steel fence established around the Hummanaya. All observing peoples get wet due to mist of lifted water.
There is a small track to walk to reach the blow hole. On the way there are small businesses which are run by the residents of the houses of the road sides where they sell dried fish and fried fish etc for reasonable prices. They even have ice cream shops etc.

On the way there is this beach area which is unpolluted and so beautiful. There were lots of crabs, sea urchins and sea animals there.

At the beginning of the trail, there is this shop which is clean and well maintained and they even allowed us to eat what we had brought from home which was very convenient for us.

It's definitely a place to visit.

Superb piece of nature. Stunning place. Very beautiful scenic and enjoyable environment. Bit far from the main road. Have to walk little bit from the car park. Few steps to be followed towards the blow hole. Well organized and established facilities by the urban council.

Another place you must visit if you love the nature in Sri Lanka. Clean and exciting place to see and wait for the water coming up from the sea. You will see the best results during June to September. After that due to less wind there is no pressure to see the water blowing .

It was an exhilarating experience as always! This is one spot I have really enjoyed very much so took a group of work friends from India.

During a delightful picnic with my family, we had the opportunity to visit the Hummanaya blowhole in the southern partof SriLanka. Witnessing the powerful water surge more than 25 feet above sea level was a remarkable experience for all of us.
The Hummanaya blowhole attracts both local and foreign tourists who come to admire this incredible natural phenomenon. It was a memorable outing that allowed us to appreciate the majestic beauty of nature.

Went on a Sunday. The parking ticket was LKR 100 for a car. We need to buy tickets from the entrance. This place closes at 7 pm. The last entrance time is 6.30 PM.
