This place is so awesome.. I really enjoyed the peace shared by the nature.. Surrounded by many warm hearts.. Road is little bit challenging but the road work is on progress.. I am recommending if you need some peace of mind ❤✌🏻

It's one of the famous rock temple in Sri Lanka.
Lord Murugan is the main god. It's situated in forest area. We can feel peaceful feeling when we come to this temple because of the nature. This temple is similar to Uganda temple in Ampara District. Hindus visit this temple in large number during festival days.

The road leading to this temple is in very bad condition. Temple is located in a calm place . We went for the yearly festival , with the lunch packets prepared at our home . We were fortunate to visit this temple this year amidst Covid-19 pandemic. There were restrictions in the temple due to Covid-19.

Thaantha malai Murugan kovil is the well known ancient Hindu temple situated in the Thaantha village, Batticaloa district ,Thanthamalai Sri Murugan Temple is located along the border of the east cost in the Kumana Panama Pathu Jungle. Thanthamalai Sri Murugan Temple is believed to be the location God Murugan or Skanda, who is Jung sun of God Siva & Parvathi,

Even though this temple is located far far away from the city this is something that everyone should visit.

The paddy fields lying along the rural roadside is really mesmerizing. It was one sunny day I traveled to this temple with family. The journey was quite tiring with the bumps and humps along the gravel path. But when I reached the temple, everything was vanished and I was literally charmed by the beauty of nature.

The view of paddy fields, shrubs and the water bodies from the hilltop made me think whether I am in some other country or not.

It is totally worth the tiring journey. However, when you travel, make sure that’s not a rainy day or it’s late evenings. Because there may be chances of siting some wild elephants which’s dung we sited on our way.

Excellent place for the worship.
This temple is situated far away from Batticaloa town, such as border area of the district. There are two temples available in that area.
1. Thanthamalai Sri Murugan Kovil (தாந்தாமலை ஸ்ரீ முருகன் கோவில்)
2. Pillayar Kovil (பிள்ளையார் கோவில்)

The Murugan kovil is located in the base of the rock and the Pillayar kovil is located on top of the Thanthamalai rock which is nearly 150m of height.

We can see the most of the area of the Batticaloa district. Especially we can see the Kudumbi malai (குடும்பி மலை) also.
