විල්ගම්වෙහෙර රජමහා විහාරය ~ Wilgamwehera Rajamaha Viharaya( මහමෙව්නාව භාවනා අසපුව-Mahamewnawa Buddhist Monastery)

Wilgamvehera vihara site is located about six kilometers away from Kenniya and about a kilometer off the main Trincomalee- Seruwawila road. Wilgamwehera Rajamaha Viharaya is a beautiful Buddhist temple to be in and learn about Buddhist culture. Since a long time local monks of that place are responsible for the maintenance of the temple. The more you would explore the place the more would get to know about the history of the place. The surrounding of the temple is equally peaceful where you can spend some time just by walking through paths. Wilgamwehera Rajamaha Viharaya would introduce you to Buddhism and you can attain peace within you here.

All the monks are very helpful and supportive .

historical very important plase to buddhist. situated in eastern province in sri lanka.. still under re-construction after the war.. can reach by any vehicle..parking available also washrooms available.

Vigamwehera is an ancient temple. This temple built up to kawanthissa period. This temple repaired 7 A.C . kashYapa king. After that repaired dambadeni period. Thera is a ancient stupa.

Very cool, very good sacred place for visit and warship for boddist

Wilgamwehera Rajamaha Viharaya is a sacred place of worship for Buddhists. It contains very old stupa which has been restored recently which contains bone relics of Lord Buddha. Before restoration the whole site was just a mound of bricks but nothing else. The archeological dig carried out during the restoration uncovered lots of surrounding parts of the stupa. The restoration work has transformed the rubble mound to a beautiful stupa with complete supporting structures for a temple. Unfortunately, there has been no archeological evidence to identify the location exactly, but it is suspected to be the "Somawathiya" because of the close proximity to the Seruwila temple which is something stated in the Mahawansha.

The whole temple complex is situated in a very relaxing environment which is perfect for worshipping activities. It could be reached via any type of vehicle since the road conditions are not too bad. It's a must visit place if you are coming to Seruwila area.

The best place to go, while you drive through tricomalee area. Very close to Seruwawila mangala maha dagoba.

This Vilgamwehera Rajamaha Vihara, located in Nelumgama, a small town called Seruvila in Trincomalee district of the eastern province of Ceylon, was built by the local king Giri Abhaya during the reign of the great pious Kavantissa Maharaja, who was the father of Maharaja Gamini Abhaya (Dutugemunu), who united the country 2200 years ago. It is a very noble land that has been purified by the pure feet of the great arahants
