Old Welekade Market

Lovely historical monument but it's a pity there is no proper information to be found.
The archeological department has an office but there is not even poster describing the history of the place.
Well kept, maintained but no photographs are permitted which is hilarious 😂

An archeological protected colonial era building, could be visited heart of Badulla City.

The old market building has identified as a trade commercial center constructed at the middle of the town after selecting Badulla as the administrative town of Uva province by British in 19 A.D. This is famous among the citizens as Dutch Market because this building has been constructed using the Dutch architectural techniques. There is an octagonal clerestory and for rectangular long building starting from there directing to the four directions. This has declared as a reserved archaeological commemorative which has been conserved by the Department of Archeology in accordance with the Archaeological act

It's a historical fort.. rereconstruct to the state it was old days.. it's good for photography too
