Kalugala is a famous hiking spot in the central province close to Mahiyangana. It is situated around 12 KM away from Ududumbara town. Reach Ududumbara town and take the road on the left from the clock tower. Go up to the 5th mile post and turn left from there too. There's a small grocery shop here. The starting point of the hiking trail is about 5 KM away from this point. The best mode of travel to reach there would be a bike or a tuk. Follow this concrete road till the end and do not turn anywhere. At one point take the road on the right which will take you to a water way. You can see the path facing straight to you and go along this path for about 5M. This is the starting point of Gerandi Ella hiking adventure. First timers, please do not attempt to climb Kalugala since the path is very challenging once you reach a certain level of altitude. We started climbing at around 2 PM and reached the top at around 5.50 PM - almost 4 hour climb. Do not carry too much water since you have adequate sources even at the top of the mountain. It's deadly to attempt the climb on rainy days. Take enough supplies if you are planning a night stay, especially a small burner since firewood is not practical due to heavy winds at the peak. You will encounter the most amazing view one can have in their lifetime. Cheers. Be safe .

A beautiful waterfall chain with around 6 waterfalls.water dries up in warm seasons(we too were unfortunate not see the waterfalls because of that)..if you wish to climb up to the top of this chain in rainy days,better be extra careful when climbing up the last waterfall because you have to climb a very steep area and also that is the only way to descend too.imagine descending a more than 70 degree slipperly path (if it rains) knuckles forest area , best for who hiking lovers

Such a beautiful cascade located above Garandigala village.
You need to go towards Kalugala from Ududumbara, and turn left towards Garandigala village. If you’ve a vehicle with good ground clearance can go directly to village and cut down walking distance.
From trail head to the top takes about 2hrs.
The climb is steep and there’s one point you need to use a rope. Should not try this on rainy and windy days.
The views from top is amazing, and camping is not authorized since this is the drinking water source for the villagers down.

Very beautiful place. Should check weather forecast before going there. Kind of a hard hike but worth to go. Recommend to go there in weekdays.

This is a great place for a nature lover or a hiker. Visit if you're physically fit. Always be careful because the hike is little hard.

One of the best place that I ever reached. Can reach via Kandy, Ududumbara and Kalugala.this is not a single waterfall, We pased around 7 steps of waterfall during the hike. It was kinda tough hike.you better prepare for it.rope will be useful there. However the view was magnificent 💚

Very beautiful place and risky be aware of some scamers , they ask lots of money for guide , but you can go up by youself but keep safe ,ask from villagers for path, take a rope , very slipery so avoid rainy days

One of the nicest place for hiking. The scenery is astonishing where you can see Mahiyanganaya town, 18 bends, Sorabora wewa and many more mountains. But take Leech socks with you for sure.

Left colombo at 3am reached this amazingly beautiful village with so much culture to it around 9am, the hike was very steep at some points where you rethink if your able to make it or not! But nevertheless loved every bit as we reached the top, the guide who accompanied us had robes for us to climb n it was tiny. This wasn’t a funny factor as it was my first camping trip!

Somehow we reached the top! And found the best place to camp right near the edge of the waterfall facing the magical mountain range.

Bonfire fairy lights and good music was the combo for the night!

Coming back down was slightly harder than the climb!

Not an easy hike but such a beautiful place.

From udadumbara you can go buy kalugala bus. You can get more information from there village people. This Place is Really Amazing. Top View is unreal💯. But dangerous hiking. Minimum 3-4 hours hiking. On the top pure water have also We can drink.

Superb view ....I went during dry season ..so there was no water..can climb to the top..steep climb..risky..be cautious ..better if u take a rope n go
