Zharkent Mosque

Very interesting mosque built in Chinese style. Town is really cute.

We're on a week long road trip of Almaty province and today this mosque was on the list. They are doing renovations and it was neat to see the man doing the fine detail work of the interior painting. They have a small museum and don't take the religious part of being a mosque too seriously. We appreciated that. They didn't make us take our shoes off and they didn't make me cover my hair. The outside is not exactly inviting. If we were not such experienced travelers we probably would have shown up, thought it was closed, and left. The big main doors are closed and locked, in fact all the doors are closed and from the outside the place looks abandoned. We saw a handicap ramp and assumed that would be an entrance, there was an unmarked door, we pushed on it, and it opened! We were inside!

Beatiful mosque. The entry costs 1000 tenge for 1 person, to make photos you need to pay additional fee (500 tenge if I remember it correctly). The mosque is open until 18:00. Next to the mosque is great museum with some of the descriptions written in english.

Very interesting place, the guides knew a little English but were very motivated and dedicated.

Oooohhhhhhh, it is one of the most impressive churches, mosques I have ever seen. Chinese style makes it really special.
The mosque was built without metal nails, but the curious design incorporates a minaret in the form of a Chinese pagoda beside a more conventional Central Asian dome, with gates in the style of the Timurid epoch.
And adding to the cross-cultural symbolism, the mosque’s ground-floor windows look Russian.
Now it works as a musuem so one can come any time and enjoy the visit with the tour guide, visiting the mosque, the park around it, and the museum halls.

Very beautiful and peaceful place. The mosque was built in 19 century. If you visit Zharkent, you have to visit this mosque, because it shows the essence of the Great Silk Road. The entry ticket costs around 3$.

Прекрасный пример зодчества, Музей мечеть возрастом 130 лет, построенный без единого гвоздя, в китайском стиле. Отреставрирован и на данный момент выглядит ухоженно, и готов к приему посетителей. Если будете в Жаркенте, обязательно посетите. Вход платный, всего 250-300 тенге. Нужно отдать должное руководителям 70х, что превратили данное сооружение в музей и сохранили до наших дней. Давайте и мы сохраним для наших потомков это днревянное великолепие архитектуры.

Мечеть-музей впечатляет. Основным строительным материалом п служила древесина (не использовались гвозди). Китайский архитектор при проектировании использовал элементы китайской архитектуры, поэтому она имеет черты буддийского храма.

Начало строительства мечети приходится на 1892 год. Инициатором и “спонсором” сооружения мечети выступил крупнейший землевладелец, купец Уали Ахун Юлдашев. Выходец из небогатой уйгурской семьи, он создал собственный капитал, мечеть и сегодня носит его имя, известная в народе как “Мечеть Уалибая”. Архитектором мечети-пагоды был Китайский подданный Хон Пик.

Памятник представляет великолепный и оригинальный ансамбль, в котором слились в одно целое архитектурные традиции Центральной Азии и Китая. Жаркентская мечеть восхищает своей живописностью, своеобразным, неожиданно гармоничным сочетанием среднеазиатских и китайских архитектурных форм, конструкций и декора.

Мечеть впечатляет, это же целая эпоха. Резьба, запах, краска, все сохрани до наших дней. Отреставрировано конечно многое. При мечети растет карагач ровесник, которому также как и мечети 130 лет. Сейчас мечеть действует как музей.

Очень интересное место, не типичное для Казахстана. А все потому что строил его - китайский архитектор аж в 1895 году. Говорят, была построена без единого гвоздя и, оказываясь, внутри понимаешь, что это похоже на правду:)
Сейчас здание находится под статусом музей-мечеть. Обратите внимание, что в воскресение короткий рабочий день, и на сайтах в интернете об этом не пишут. Есть вход для людей с ограниченными возможностями. За посещение мы заплатили 200 или 250 тг (~0.5$) на человека. На момент посещения (конец августа 2021) мечеть находится на реставрации, но несмотря на это мы остались поражены этим строением.

Решительно рекомендую для посещения. Красивейшее место. Каждый уголок можно разглядывать часами и удивляться красоте этого здания. Писк летучих мышей прибавляет колорита. Прекрасный ухоженный сад на территории.
