Charyn Canyon National Park

This place is surreal.. It's fascinating to see such beautiful place.. The Russian van drive in side the canyon is fun...

Walk through the canyon was beautiful is a 2.5k walk to reach the charyn river. You can alternatively take the taxi. But prefer the walk to enjoy the canyon.

Astonishing views. This nature’s masterpiece has been created by erosion of Charyn river. Took over a million of years to form. I have not been to the Grand canyons in the USA, but this one seemed equally impressive. There is a cafe called Tary at the entrance of the national park which can be used to have some good food.

Better then Arizona... Spectacular and wonder of the world in amazing Almaty Kazakhstan. Not near to the city but the journey there are very interesting. You will passed 12 villages before reach this beautiful landscape where each village have their own traditions and unique. Start from the visitor centre where located at the best overall view on the canyon. Spacious parking area for both private cars, van or tourist group coaches. The visitor centre located at the lower floor with informative person in charge, super clean washrooms, souvenirs shops and cafe, restaurant that can accommodate big group at one time. It's beautiful topographic that you may not imagine exists in this region. The land are orang to red color as for the mineral here I believe and it's layers of the formation are visible perfectly here compare with the one in Cappadocia. Was here on this Dec and it's super cold here... So wear suitable attire at any season you are traveling or having a tour here. End of the trail... We enjoy beautiful Charyn river at the end of the walk from the center and it's absolutely worth it. This is place that you may have some bbq or plan to arrange meals before tracking back to the center. The thing is.... Every corner in this place are so beautiful. And do plan best with suitable attire, season to visit and professional guide to make sure you enjoyed this place perfectly.

Very nice place. In summers very hot and in winter very cold. Try to take the open jeep for comfortable ride. River inside the canyon is very beautiful and give very pleasant experience. Very nice place.

It is the 2nd largest canyon in the world.
It consists of 5 different canyons.
You can enjoy the canyon by walk or take a taxi. Make sure you take tickets on time or else you’ve to wait in the queue.
Place is huge and amazing. Worth the hype

Charyn Canyon is simply magnificent. Spent 1.5 hours walking around to appreciate the natural wonder. It is easy walking if you keep to the walk path and do not venture down into the canyon. Can take terrific panoramic photos of the canyon from the designated viewing points. May want to put on a hat and apply some sunscreen as it's all open terrain

Beautiful canyon with a new visitor centre. Quite accessible too (once you climb down the narrow steps) - there are cars going up and down the canyon if you can't or don't feel like walking. The canyon goes downhill to the river with a nice picnic area. There are benches and shaded rest points with water fountains along the way.

The visitor centre has a great gift shop with merch from local artists and a couple other national parks + a café/restaurant. And, of course, free public restrooms.

The cell reception in the area is surprisingly great + the visitor centre has WiFi.

Winter trip to Charyn Canyon. For warm winter of 2023/2024 this is much recommended place to visit.

It is windy area, do not expect much show. Good idea to check wind speed forecast, if it is more than 10 meters per second, you can feel not very comfortable. But wind is always much less on the bottom of the Canyon.

Comfortable hiking shoes or warm sneakers is a must, hat and gloves are just right for the place. You must go 3 kilometers along the bottom of the Canyon to get to Charyn river at canyon's end.

Near parking lot there is a new nice visit center with small restaurant. Try tea with baursaki. Baursaki are very good here.

For the back way majority of tourist take a small open cabin van (500 tenge per trip) or go by walk by the same way they came to the river. But there is short hidden path, which is quite steep in some parts. And it will bring you to the best viewpoint of Charyn Canyon.

If you go by car, include Bartogai lake and Moon canyon to the program. SUV is required. Moon Canyon is really a unique place.

Amazing. It’s really beautiful. The weather was not that good but still the nature is amazing here. The way to the park is easy accessible by car. The roads are good and everywhere are signs.
If Grand Canyon or Charyn they are both equally beautiful

A national treasure. Walk along the top of the canyon, which gives you superb views of the canyon below with snow-topped mountains as a backdrop, or walk along the canyon itself where you will be treated to walk back in time.

It felt like I was walking through Tatooine.

At the bottom there are picnic areas and a gorgeous river. A real treat.

It is one of the most beautiful natural sceneries in the world. It would be better to arrange where you are going to eat before you go or take snacks and drinks with you. I think summer is the best time to go there.

Charyn Canyon National Park is about 3 hours drive from Almaty City. The trip is mostly combined with Kolsai Lake, which another 2 hours drive from the canyon. There is a restaurant with toilet facility at the entrance to the Canyon. It's a vast area, which can be viewed from the top or climb down and walk upto the river. Must visit place if you're in Almaty.

Long track in the heat down the canyon but well worth it. return by bus is recommended but get you ticket as soon as you get down. bus takes people in number order so would be waiting 90mins if busy day

Loved it!

We did a nice hike through the canyon then climbed up the steep and rocky side of the canyon to get up to the top. We then walked along the ridge back to the visitor center. Please note that there is a bathroom available and the cafe too.

The river surprised me at the end of the hike with way more water than expected and moving quite rapidly too!

Memorable visit.

Absolutely stunning canyon!!! Worse to see every second, need to be aware of the hit in summer, and prepare sunscreen as sun exposure is strong. Locals recommend to travel there in October-November.
It was +34 in shadow today and heavy walking is difficult in this weather 😑

Charyn Canyon is one of the most beautiful places in Kazakhstan . 3-4 hours drive from the Almaty city.

Majestic canyons stretching far and wide. You'll feel like a tiny dot against the forces of nature here. There's an upper path towards a panoramic view and a lower path diving into the depths of the canyon itself. We only had time for the upper path and we were already blown away (figuratively, and literally by the wind haha). Do check the weather because rain can be heavy here in summer.
