Jirisan National Park: Jungsanri Visitor Center

If you are in good health and in good physical shape, I recommend taking the full loop via the waterfalls then to the summit. I made the mistake of decending by way of the waterfall trail. I spent most of my time looking at the ground to keep from falling or slipping and missed a lot of the beautiful surroundings because of it.

Even on the easiest parts of the mountain, you will be traversing over loose rocks, boulders, streams and bridges. It is for this reason I emphasize that you should ensure to wear proper mountain gear for the hike. I saw too many people wearing running shorts and street shoes. This mountain is far too dangerous to dress like this.

On a slight side note/rant, I also suggest bringing a good pair of hiking poles with you. Don't expect to find good poles here in South Korea. The stores sell cheap, low quality Chinese poles that won't hold up for more than light usage. If you are taller than the average Korean (172 cm / ~5' 6"), you won't likely find any poles anyway.

For all visitors that don't have a Korean Bank, parking at the base camp will cost you 5 Won. Make sure you have cash with you as your card will likely not be accepted and the closest ATM is about 5 kilometers away.

Beautiful hike! I strongly recommend taking the loop clockwise, otherwise your ascent will be especially difficult. Also, if you time it right, the green portion of the trail is a bus route.

One of the best mountain in korea, you will love it.

The park employees were very helpful. Funny thing was that I was exiting the park. However they thought I was re-entering when I was really inquiring about the bus stop nearby. They pointed me in the right direction and I was able to reach the bus on time.

모처럼 만에 지리산 백무동에서 출발해서,,장터목대피소로
올라와 천왕봉정상을 지나 중산리로
내려오는 산행은 오랜만에 느껴보는
즐거운 산행이였다...

28년만에 찾은 지리산 천왕봉. 올라갈 수 있을까 살짝 걱정했는데 비록 3번을 빗속에 미끄러져 넘어지기는 했지만 사고없이 천왕봉까지 갔다 왔네요. 쉬엄쉬엄 올라간 탓에 칼바위코스(5.4km)로 오르는데 5시간 가량 소요. 내려올때는 장터목대피소코스(7km)로 5시간 가량. 빗길에 미끄럽다보니 하산이나 등산이는 시간은 그리 큰차이가 안나네요.

지리산을 오르는 천번째 장소 중산리에서 천왕봉 등산을 시작한다.
가을이 시작된 천왕봉은 아름다움의 극치이다.
참 멋진 산행이었다.

지리산에서 제일 친절한 국립공원 직원분에게 큰 도움을 받음.

언제 찾아가도 숲은 아름답다.
인간의 간섭이 적으면 적을수록
자연은 더 건강성을 회복해간다.
지리산 누구나 한번쯤은 도전해
보고싶은 그런산이다.
우리나라에서 두번째로 높은산
정상부 천왕봉을 가장 짧은 시간에
오늘수있기에 종주가 아닌이상
대부분 중산리코스를 이용하게된다.
보통 4시간정도면 정상에 도착하는데
하지만 가파른 능선길이 그리 호락호락
하지가않다.
대체로 가파른 능선탓에 사망사고도
심심치않게 자주일어나기에 늘 그렇듯
체력에 맞게 조절하며 쉬엄쉬엄 오를일이다.
정상의 조망은 사계절 언제든 다
멋진곳이다.

상고대가 많아서 몸과 눈 힐링 하고 왔습니다.

높다고만 명산은 아니며 넓다고만 지리산이 아니다.
지리산 능선에서 맑은 날 일몰과 일출을 본다면 무엇이 진정한 명산인지 알게됨

천왕봉 최단코스 중산리 ! 아침 일찍 갔는데도 공휴일이라 그런지 사람들이 꽤 있었어요. 오르는 건 3시간 정도면 충분해요. 자차 없으면 방문 힘듭니다.
