Tanigawa Valley Lodge & Coffee Roastery

I spent a month cycling around Japan and stopped off here - I had a wonderful experience and was even picked up from the train station nearby. Slept incredibly well, had nice chats with the staff and was even recommended a bike-packing route for the next few days of my trip by the owner. As a bonus there was a tasty filter coffee to be had in the morning too.

In hindsight some of the Airbnb / hotel experiences I had in Japan were quite anonymous but this was warm and welcoming. If you're thinking of booking - do it!

Great atmosphere and fantastic coffee. Can sample a few different types of coffee throughout your stay. Rooms are traditional Japan style and a bit old, noise travels easily, but bathroom had been redone and had a great warm shower.

The staff are so incredibly welcoming and kind. Great variety of homemade cakes, which change every week. Beautiful location with outdoor seating. We were in Minakami for a month and visited Tanigawa Coffee Roastery once a week to play boardgames, relax, enjoy the scenery and yummy food. The owners are really knowledgeable about the area and gave recommendations on where to swim and hike. Definitely worth a visit!

You’ll love the location and you’ll love the coffee even more. You’ll struggle to find a place anywhere in this region that puts so much care into selecting beans, roasting, and brewing their coffee. But the serious attitude about coffee doesn’t stop them from creating a really relaxed atmosphere. Oh, and they partner with a local bakery that makes sourdough pastries!!

It is set in an absolutely beautiful mountain forests area of Gunma Prefecture in a quaint European-looking vintage lodge that the owners have done a fantastic job remodeling. When we last visited, the large sakura tree was in full bloom in front of the lodge and made the atmosphere even more beautiful.

Both the coffee my wife had and the hot chocolate I had were both very delicious. I’m sure the fact that the owners imported both the beans and the chocolate as well as roast the beans on-site is one reason why.

And the owners are so nice and friendly and have a cute chocolate lab. The whole experience was great, and My wife and I look forward to visiting there again.

Stopped by on a way to Onsen on Saturday morning.
Opened this year, the cafe is new and beautiful, and is located in the most beautiful area of Minakami.
Each coffee is hand dripped and homemade cakes and soups were all so delicious!
Owner is a really friendly Australian man(family) and I hope this place will be a landmark in Minakami !!

A lovely coffe roastery ,in an amazing spot-just next to the beautiful Tanigawa mountain!
The owners are soo friendly and nice, and always willing to tell you more about the coffe beans that they are roasting there.

Absolutely incredible. Custom imports alternative milks too if you’re into that kind of thing. Me, I’m a traditionalist, in that damn it’s good.

相方の絶賛なるおすすめで来訪。ロケーション、オーナーとのお話、コーヒーの味、全てが最高😀ゲストハウスにもなっているんですね。オーナーは日本語お上手なのですが、せっかくなのでもっと英語で話できればよかったな。
パプアニューギニアの豆は初めていただきましたが、自分好みでした。

We were looking forward to this special coffee shop from a while ago.
I finally could drink coffee,visit and meet you.
It was in the wonderful place and was like the secret base.
The kind of coffee beans is abundant, too.
In addition, a bakery is only an attractive thing, too.

As for the next time, I want to see a drawing card dog.
Also owner can speak English and wonderful Japanese. They are wonderful personality.
So everyone loves that cafe.

以前、水上温泉を旅した際に見つけた秘密基地のような素敵なコーヒーショップ。
週に2回のみのオープンとのことで念願の訪問でした。
オーナーは海外の方ですが、地元に馴染んでいる素敵なお人柄で、日本語がとても達者です。
きっと、沢山努力されたんですね。
私も英語の勉強頑張ろと思いました。

看板犬のマックスさんは見あらなかったので、次回は会えたら嬉しいです。
ちょうど早お昼を食べてから行ったので、貸切状態でしたが、後から後からお客さんがみえました。

オーナーのお子さまでしょうか？
大きな木の下のベンチでランチタイム。
とても和やかで楽しそうでした。
ペンションもされているそうなので、赤ちゃんが産まれたら、お泊まりもいいなぁと思いました。

雰囲気はもう本当に最高で、秘密基地のようでした。コーヒーの豆も豊富でオーナーさんが直輸入されて焙煎されている様子がインスタにありました。

各国からベイカーさんがきて、色々な国の焼き菓子が並んでいます。
今回はannaさんの洋梨と生姜のケーキをいただきましたが、生姜ってケーキと合うんだ！って位美味でした。

コーヒーは、ホットはエチオピア。
アイスはパプアニューギニア🇵🇬をチョイス。
とても香りが良く、コーヒー豆の油も出ており最高に美味しいコーヒーでした。

長閑な自然を目の前に飲むコーヒーが本当に美味しい！
豆も買って帰りましたが、自分で挽いても違いました。

Io e la mia ragazza abbiamo alloggiato per 3 notti nella casa. Il posto ci è piaciuto subito, si respira tradizione e cura nei particolari. Il prezzo è buono e Il proprietario è stato gentilissimo e ci ha aiutato più volte a raggiungere la fermata del bus e altre destinazioni. Lui è di origine australiana e per noi che non sapevamo il giapponese è stato un enorme aiuto.
La casa è bellissima e anche se in questa stagione ha fatto freddo, nelle stanze ci sono le stufe che in pochi secondi scaldano tutta la stanza.
Se cerchi un posto tranquillo e alla mano senza però volerti privare di confort allora non rimarrai deluso!!
Vicino alla casa ci sono delle onsen bellissime e a poco prezzo.
Grazie mille dell'esperienza, continuate così !!
