Today 27.1.1983 was the Pilot Tunnel breakthrough of the Japanese Seikan Tunnel. Still today it is the longest Railroad tunnel in the world with 53.9 Km length (23.3 Km below Sea) It connects Honshu with Hokkaido.
Geographical Survey started already in 1946 while construction started in 1971. The main Tunnel opened finally on 13.3.1988
A relatively unknown technical masterpiece.
