Kawayu-Onsen Fujiya

Beautiful room overlooking river. Recommend Japanese style room. Definitely on the old side but in an ‘accidentally Wes Anderson’ kind of style which was an experience. No cleanliness issues, food fantastic and staff very helpful.

The staff were all welcoming and knowledgeable with good to excellent English. The room was clean, spacious and the best part was the private onsen bath on the deck. We had a lovely view over the river and it often felt like we were the only people around. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious with many, many courses and tasty sake and plum wine. We tried foods and cooking methods we hadn't experienced before and the servers were friendly guides through the whole experience. It was a lovely stay!

Super helpful staff who made the stay pleasant. Facilities were clean and my room was big with an in-room onsen. It was the best feature. Breakfast and dinner were sumptuous. Highly recommend this place.

By Japanese standards, room size is large and I love the sliding window doors that can open the room completely to nature. Also very nice that even though this hotel has several onsens, the room still has a shower tub, and Western (not Japanese) toilet. Dinner is sumptuous and the best hotel dinner I had in Japan. Hotel receptionist spoke English so can be extra helpful, like putting me on the free hotel shuttle to the start of a Kumano Kodo hike high up in the mountains.

A gently elegant traditional onsen hotel with delicious food in a truly beautiful location

Lovely hotel which we used for one night when walking along from Hosshinmon-Oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha and Oyunohara. The onsen were lovely, especially the open air which gave a private view of the trees and river across the road but with sufficient fencing to cover your body from chest down. The food here was fantastic, with a multi course kaiseki dinner and a multi-course breakfast which was also excellent. Would stay here again.

Beautiful Onsen Hotel, the staff is super friendly and we had a spacious, beautifully lit room with a private outdoor Onsen!
In the morning, you have a peaceful view of the forest while taking a hot bath in your private Onsen. Would definitely come back here and recommend it to anyone.

Great example of a traditional Onsen Hotel experience. Traditional meals are a treat.

We stayed there one night, had a fabulous time! The meals were delightful. Staff seemed reserved at first but then became very friendly. Very nice area, quiet and relaxing.

Everything in this place was excellent - the room overlooking the river, the indoor and outdoor baths, the meticulously prepared meals, the staff and service they provide and the beautiful scenery. You could just stay in your room and still have the most relaxing, luxurious holiday - which I wish I did rather than go for long walks around the area. A 2-night stay wasn't long enough. Got to say that was one of my most memorable birthday vacation.

Beside the room we stayed you can see the beautiful Otogawa river,it is great nature experience.The food in hotel is delicious and onsen are the best.

I spent two nights here, taking a day's rest from hiking the Kumano Kodo. It was the perfect place to get some downtime in comfort, eat delicious Japanese food and experience the Onsen (I rented a private bath, but just across the street one can bathe in the river! Domo Arigato!

Very special place..call in if on a hike and make the most of the hot-spring.

Great Onsen Hotel

子どもたちと一緒に川湯温泉仙人風呂に入りたかったので、仙人風呂から一番近いこちらの宿を選びました。私たちは水着持参だったので使いませんでしたが、仙人風呂に入るための湯着も貸してくれますし、サンダルも貸してくれます。仙人風呂がとても近いので、本当に便利でした。
歴史ある旅館で施設は古いですがとても綺麗にリフォームされていて掃除も行き届いており、なんの問題もありません。朝夕付きで２泊しましたが、食事は毎日違って、とても美しく美味しく新鮮。子ども用の食事も子どもたちが好きなものばかり出てきて、大満足です。ホテルの方も親切で礼儀正しく、最初から最後までとても気持ちよく過ごせました。客室が少ないこともあり、大浴場も露天風呂も、貸切状態でのんびり過ごせました。子どもたちはあと１週間くらい滞在したかったと言っています☺大変お世話になり、ありがとうございました。

この温泉は「秘湯を守る会」会員宿で本物の温泉を楽しめます。
お部屋は綺麗ですし、お料理もオリジナリティがあって郷土料理を楽しめます。この温泉の性質は美肌のゆで、ぬるぬるしっとり。お風呂上がりの肌ケアも忘れずにくださいね。

特筆すべきは目の前の川を掘れば温泉がわきだすこと。温泉大国日本でもなかなかありません。
苦労せず温泉を川で楽しめるのも魅力的ですね。
ホテルからは着衣やぞうりも貸してもらえますし、ホテルマンも親切。気分よく楽しめますね。
また再訪したいお宿です。ありがとうございました。
