Daimaru Besso

Love this place. After did some research, I landed my little escape away of 2 nights here. The place is very calm and Zen. Perfect place to ease your mind and be away from the city. I stay in traditional Japanese room, and it is so enchanting!! The Onsen is very well maintained and clean. All the staff were being very kind and helpful. A little out of the way, location wise, but also wasn’t that hard to get there. Definitely will come back here if I come back to Fukuoka area.

We stayed for 2 nights for our first Ryokan and onsen experience.

All of the staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. Big shout-out to Kido-san who was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay.

We had a Japanese room with a bath. It was spacious, clean and traditional. Simple decor and furnishings but a nice layout and design throughout. The futon was comfortable and the AC was good.

The public onsen allows small tattoos, the size of a fist or smaller. The grounds have a nice Japanese garden to stroll in.

There is a smoking room, games room for ping pong and ring toss, a coffee and tea lounge that provides free green tea or coffee, as well as some paid snacks and drinks as well as a small gift shop.

The site is quite old first opening in 1865 I believe but is well maintained and beautifully decorated on the inside.

It is fairly quiet but not completely soundproofed, keeping in mind the mostly wooden construction.

We got the bus from Hakata station and arrived at chikushino bus stop on the highway. It was a short walk to the hotel via a few flights of stairs and an underpass.

Some of the staff that serve breakfast and dinner are not completely fluent in English, but that's our problem for not understanding Japanese, not the hotel's issue. We got by mostly with Google translate when discussing the menu/food.

Speaking of the food, it was served in the rooms and at a time specified by us. There were a variety of courses and dishes, each of which was well presented and tasted great.

At checkout, there was a minor issue that we probably would have never raised with the staff. They proactively brought this up and provided a solution for us which was not expected. 5* for the customer service!

I had a truly perfect experience! This renowned place boasts a rich history, with authentic and impeccably maintained Japanese historical ryokan. The staff are exceptionally well-trained and polite. Despite initial concerns about water cleanliness, their informative video on cleaning the onsen area put us at ease. Breakfast with my family was delightful, and the onsen water was truly amazing! Instantly, my skin felt smoother, and upon waking, it was wonderfully moisturized. If I return to Fukuoka, I wouldn't hesitate to revisit this gem. My parents also thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Many thanks to all!!

Room is huge and the service here is great. Very good place to escape the bustling life of the city. Only downside is that it’s pretty hard to get to the location via public transport. Will need to take a short cab ride to the ryokan that takes 10mins. Love the bath and living space. Would definitely stay here again if given the chance!! Highly recommended!

I visited on 29 Nov 2023 as a day trip with lunch. I am 100% satisfied with the experience. The service staff were friendly and food was absolutely delicious. The private garden is lush and the other visitors are very respectful by keeping their voices down throughout. The onsen water is simply amazing..feels very clean. I think the hotel is genuine about repairing their image since the scandal and I think they're doing amazing. I will certainly visit again! Highly recommended 👍🏽

30mins drive from FUK. Definitely worth it. Breakfast was well prepared and in the room. Spa opens to 11:00pm and 10:30am in the morning session for hotel guests

It is quite nice place not far from Halata station (30 mins train and walk). The building is a bit old but well maintained. Staff here are extremely friendly and helpful.

this place is pretty old but still has that elegant classic feel. the dishes served were superior and exquisite. the baths was just one but it was pretty huge. the room assigned to us had no hot water but they changed rooms and gave me a discount as compensation.

only concern is that for foreign travelers - googlemaps provides an option wherein you use a bus from hakata bus station to drop off at the chikushino bus stop and walk 3 minutes to the place. however in reality the bus stop is situated on the side of the highway and you're going to have go down the stairs (around 3 levels) which isn't good if you're carrying lots of luggage or if its raining.

we opted to get a taxi back to hakata station (around +-5000 yen fare) since it was raining all day.

Stayed at Daimaru Besso over a weekend. From the moment we checked in staff apologised to us over their recent news and guests also received a letter detailing the measures they are taking on hygiene - there is a video in the onsen room outlining how they drain the water and clean the onsen every night. Onsen was clean and the scent of the water was pure. Staff also went out of their way to show great hospitality with warmth and kindness, and the breakfast in the private dining room, and post-breakfast coffee and green tea in the cafe, were all delicious. There is also a beautiful garden. 頑張って！応援しています。(NB if taking the Hita bus from Tenjin to the bus stop Chikushino Futsukaichi Onsen Iriguchi, you have to climb down 3 flights of stairs and walk through an underpass to cross the road to get to the Besso).

The location on Google maps is wrong, instead use the location from their Facebook page. You must walk along the main road and the entrance to the guest house car park can be found directly to the side. Walk through the car park to reach the check-in. The people working here are very friendly, the rooms are idyllic and the food is really good. I especially enjoyed the beef which was far better than the Kobe beef I had in Kobe. The assortment of new things to try, like Fugu, was also really wonderful. The young staff who showed us to our room spoke English well and explained the facilities well. The people who served us breakfast and dinner spoke more limited English but were kind, patient and helpful. We had no trouble communicating with them with our extremely basic Japanese grammar and limited vocabulary. The sake with the meal, and drinks in our room, were a very reasonable price. At 10.30pm-11.30pm the male and female baths were empty. It was lovely to open the shutters, feel the cool breeze and smell the flowers while taking my bath. The baths were so beautiful, I felt like I was in the anime series Love Hina. I would love to come back. I strongly disagree with all negative reviews left about this guest house.

Great experience, the highlight of the hotel/onsen/restaurant is the staff! They are great, kind and always available.

大丸別荘を愛する友人に誘われて、ゴールデンウィーク最終日に近場で♨に。
ニュースを見ていたので不安でしたが、♨＆ラウンジ＆日本庭園、最高でした！ラウンジでは、入浴前にコーヒー、入浴後にバニラアイス、ともに330円！バニラアイスには懐かしのウエハウス！銀の器も懐かしい、昭和の香りがしました。

そうそう、受け付けから♨、ラウンジのどこでも良い香りが。白檀？かは分かりませんが、落ち着く香りと間接照明の明るさで、ゆったり過ごしました。

♨はアツ！ではないのに、すぐに体がぽかぽか。シャンプー、トリートメント、素敵石鹸はオリジナルだそう。洗面所には冷水に、化粧品が置いてありました。

みなさんもどんなものか、行ってみて下さい。大丸別荘を一歩出ると、大きな道のある都会なギャップで、びっくり。あっ、日本庭園も♨の湯冷ましに歩いてみてね！

源泉で気持ちのいいお湯でした。
また、石の浴槽は大きくて、周りの木々の緑も窓から見えて景観も良かったです。
贅沢な入浴ができました！！！
なお、タオルも使い放題、シャンプー、コンディショナー、ボディーソープ、クレンジング、化粧水、乳液、歯ブラシなども使えます！！！

初めて利用させていただきました。お迎えから、スタッフの対応がよく、お部屋の説明を丁寧にして頂きました。生後6ヶ月の子も一緒に連れての宿泊でしたが、マットレスが非常に良く、短時間でもすごく睡眠が取れました。掘りごたつでのお食事も床にホットカーペットが敷かれており、暖かくくつろいで食事することができました。宿泊中に何度でも頂けるコーヒーも美味しかったです。

立ち寄り湯に行ってきました。日本庭園も含めてとても綺麗で、とても久しぶりにゆっくりと寛ぐことができました。お昼過ぎということもあり人がそう多くなかったのもあって、温泉を堪能できました。今度は宿泊でお世話になりたいと心から思いました。貴重な体験をさせていただきありがとうございました。

昨年の問題があったのは全く覚えておらず宿泊先として大丸別荘を選択。フロントで、謝罪をうけるがなんのことか全く思い出せず、、、。

それでも丁寧に謝罪されるスタッフに逆に申し訳なくなってしまった。

スタッフ一人一人が信頼を戻したいと強い気持ちで働いているのが伝わってきた。

お風呂には、モニターがあり、風呂の掃除の様子が流れていて、お客様に安心感を与えるための工夫がなされていた。

過去に起きた事はしかたない。
今、これからどう対応するかですね。

そう考えると素晴らしい施設、スタッフだったと思います！

また泊まりたいと本当に思いました！
