Never miss this if you will go to Nara! 😊 It is such a unique and fun to experience witness how they make the dough of the mochi.

The mochi is so fresh and have a red bean filling inside. It is not sweet and quite small so better have more than 1pc. 😂

They are doing the show quite often, I guess like once per hour or even lesser than an hour. Just make sure you have the best spot! 👌🏼

Wow, we walked past this shop by chance on the way to Nara Park and saw the ladies efficiently making this excellent rice cake with red bean filling. They looked so tempting that we just have to get one to try. Warm, fragrant, sweet rice and red bean paste. The powder coating was also excellent. This is definitely a must-try when you go to Nara Park.

Service was brisk and friendly too. Enjoyed watching them at work. (This is a late review. Came here in April 2023.)

One of the must try shop for their music. Loved by the locals and travellers. You can find it in the YouTube too for their mochi making process. Although we missed it, we still get a chance to taste their mochi. The price is affordable, portion is big and really delicious. It's just beside the main shopping district.

More than the showmanship, the mochi is really fluffy, soft and delicious! It’s very entertaining and funny watching the team performing and massaging the dough! The texture of the mochi is good, sweetness of the red bean just nice, and affordable, at 180Yen! The shop will consistently have queue so it’s hard to miss.

The iconic mochi pounding shop - worth watching a demonstration live if you’re in Nara, and literally a 5-10 min walk from the deer park anyway.

The demos are scheduled for every 30 minutes but staff add extras when they see the crowd building. Might be worth camping if you get the chance as the roadside curb isn’t spacious.

Mochi are made fresh and you can eat on the spot or package to go. Generous red bean stuffing. Dough is chewy though the matcha may not be obvious to taste.

There are dustbins here. Toilets are further away though.

Don’t forget to watch the legendary mochi pounding show and buy a box of mochi at this place when in Nara!

Not only was it fun to watch, the mochi is actually extremely tasty. It’s freshly made, and the red bean filling and soybean powder topping was 10/10 🫘 !

Probably the most crowded place in nara compare to the nara park. People are lining up just to see the mochi pounding experience. Overall mochi pounding runs every 30min, the mochi is soft and fluffy with huge amount of red bean paste inside. The most outer layer of mugwort powder is nice.
Must try mochi in nara.

There's two lines - one to watch the mochi being made, which happens according to a fixed schedule.

We only bought the mochi - you can choose between fresh ones from the tray to eat on the spot, or boxed ones to take away. Both of them are 180 yen per mochi.

They were great and chewy in texture, with a red bean filling that's not too sweet, and lightly dusted with kinako flour on the outside. Worth a try!

There’s a line for takeouts, but it moves very fast. For 180yen, you can get a warm and soft mochi here, very tasty!

This place definitely lives up to the hype, the best mochi I’ve ever had! Super soft and chewy, great red bean paste and love the dusting of malt powder or something similar that they coat it with. So great.

This place is not just a trend, their mochi was actually delicious! Jusy a short walk from the station. Coincidentally we showed up right when they were filming their signature mochi hammering. We got the mochi filled with red bean and the mochi was perfect. We also tried some rice crackers which were also good but nothing special.

Highly recommend getting their mochi as this place is definitely worth the visit.

Sadly the demonstration was over by the time we reached. But the mochi was deliciously soft, chewy and warm. Definitely one of the best and freshest mochi I have tried, still worth a visit if Nara's on your itinerary!

Delicious fresh mochi for 180 yen each. The bean paste filling isn't overly too sweet, which was nice. The outer mochi meat was really tender and soft and melts in your mouth. Was also lucky enough to witness the legendary mochi pounding show.

Amazingly tasty mochi! Made fresh and very fast moving. They have really only one product, so not much to think about or ask questions. Just stand in the line, tell them how many you want and pay! This is on the way to the Nara deer park, so you can't miss it. Just stop where there is a crowd and it will be this place 😀 they have demonstrations as well but we missed it by a few minutes.

Missed the mochi pounding but the mochi was still pretty good. Worth even if you make a brief stop just to try out a mochi. Super soft, chewy, and very tasty

It is best green tea mochi with red beans inside. They dont have certificate halal, but, i saw the review that said it is not contain any haram products. It also delicious and fresh. They just made 5 minutes before it.

But, because it is freshmade, so it just stand for one day. If you far away from Tokyo you cant take to your city.

It is old traditional shop, but the front liner how to speak english well.

absolutely blown away by this seemingly unassuming thing. i mean - i’d seen countless videos of the viral mochi pounding online.. but it is NOT just another insta-famous grub. literally the best mochi of my life?! the chewiness of the green tea flavored skin, sweetness & earthiness of the red bean, with that kinako/soybean powder dusted on the surface. every mouthful of this combination was pure joy - i wish i could ship boxes back to my home country.

fun experience to witness the dough show. The show time will be written, so if you want to see the show, be there early and make sure you get a good spot for your Instagram videos! The mochi is super soft, and the red bean paste inside pairs well with the overall texture.
