This is not my first visit the last time was about 4 years ago for the Airshow at the base to watch the Phantoms flying during there last year of Operational use.
Then yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to see the opening day for static display of the Last Phantom that flow for Japan Self Defence Force. Great to see Japan taking care of it aviation history. The Museum displays are well maintained and show a great time line of Japanese aviation.
Well worth the visit.

This was a fun experience to visit in the area. Their is a bus for 100 yen making going from the station and back super easy. The area is very wide open, clean, and has super nice staff. The airplanes and space stuff on display are fascinating. It was neat they have the sets with Japanese and English text making it open fully for all. Great place. I liked buying space food before I took the 100 yen bus back to the station.

This place is amazing. My husband, who usually just tolerates museums, actually took his time and read the signs. He was actually slower than me. My children loved it. It was a shame some of the exhibits that you can interact with were closed due to covid. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here.

This museum is an amazing. It displays many real size airplanes, helicopters, space shuttle, and the related information. Excellent place for children or adults to learn about the progress and advancement of the air and space technology in a Japanese perspective.

Other than the main building, you can find a large playground for kids and family to enjoy. And large parking for cars. The entry ticket is around 800/adult and free for junior high school student or below the age.

Some very rare (one of a kind) aircraft. They have an observation tower on the roof and they are right next to the air base so if your patience you can see/hear/feel some cool fighters

I enjoyed my visit to the Kakamigahara Aviation Museum. It was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The exhibits were well maintained, showcasing a diverse range of aircraft, both military and civilian, covering the history of flight in Japan. One aspect I particularly appreciated was the bilingual presentation of information in Japanese and English, which made learning about these aircraft and their history seamless for non-native speakers. The informative displays provided fascinating insights into the evolution of aviation technology and its impact on Japan. The interactive exhibits added an extra layer of entertainment, making the visit engaging and memorable. Additionally, the short lines ensured a smooth and enjoyable exploration of the museum. If you're an aviation enthusiast or simply interested in the history of flight, this museum is a must-visit.

You'll be thrilled to visit the impressive airplane museum, showcasing an extensive collection of aircraft spanning from the 19th century to the present day. What's more, the museum offers state-of-the-art simulators that simulate the experience of being an actual airplane pilot, providing an exhilarating adventure for both young and old aviation enthusiasts alike.

It's really fun experience and really educated me about aircraft development in Japan.. they provide English direction and explanation so it's English speaker friendly. There is 2 floors, first floor is aircraft story, second floor is spaceship (aerospace) story. I came with a family and a child, museum provide lot of interactives games related to the story and even movie (in Japanese) that's really entertaining. We spend about 4 hours inside. there is vending machine inside and souvenir shop at the exit. Give it a try when you came to Kakamigahara

A grand collection of modern Japanese aircraft, plus some older ones. The staff were very friendly and grateful of the shuttle service from the train station.

Small but smartly presented. A really nice selection of Japanese aircraft. Many that I remember from my aerospace days. A couple of Shin miewa seaplanes and those high lift 4 engined transporters that were en vogue in the 80s.

Super interesting airplane museum. Entry fee is only 800 yen for adults and free for elementary students. There are a ton of different Japanese planes and practically all the exhibits have full English descriptions which makes it great value for visitors from abroad. We went by car-not sure how accessible it is by train but there is a free shuttle bus from a local train station.

Pretty good museum. Shows the progress of flight from wood & canvas planes to space flight. Brought two boys ages 6 and 11 and they thought it was great. So did I!
