It was a unique shrine and a bit different from the ones I have been to since there is a more than 3,000 year old camphor tree found within the premises. You can visit the tree by going through this path at the back of the shrine and through a mini bamboo forest. This is quite near the Takeo City Library so you might consider visiting that after lingering here for a bit.

Beautiful shrine with the white color and the 御朱印 was sooo colorful!
We also loved all the charms with the 3 thousand year old tree!
Highly recommend if you are in the area or visiting public library. It is only a 5min walk!

The Takeo Shrine is very nice and well maintained. We visited in mid April and the flowers were starting to bloom and cherry blossoms were almost all gone.
The Giant Camphor behind the Shrine is amazing. You can no longer walk all the way up to the tree, but you can see that there is a small shrine inside the hallowed out portion of the tree.
Free parking at the Shrine. Really enjoyed the visit.

I love stopping here through the various seasons. When the cherry blossoms are blooming and during autumn when the leaves change colors it is especially beautiful here. In October the shrine hosts an archery and horseback archery competition. It’s magnificent to watch. The shrine has different stamps one can choose from for a stamp book. The main attraction can be found through a small bamboo forest, which was very impressive. At the end of the forest is a 3,000 year old camphor tree one can pray to for a long life. Inside there is a small shrine that can be viewed from behind a fence. This is a great stop for those visiting Takeo’s library as it is only a quick walk away.

Natural divine beauty, incredible force and feeing with both the joined cypress trees and 3000 year old camphor.

It was a compact shrine. But it was good to go. This is a beautiful shrine, and the "Okusunoki" that continues from the site is a must-see.

A beautiful shrine nestled on the side of a mountain. The most interesting part of this place is that the shrine itself is built within a tree which is believed to be 3000 years old

Takeo Shrine is a shrine found in Takeo City in the western part of Saga prefecture.

It was first built in the year 735.

After travelling through the bamboo woods behind the main hall of Takeo Shrine you emerge into an open space to find the Great Camphor Tree of Takeo.

This sacred camphor tree is the sixth largest tree in Japan and over 3000 years old.

There are 3 main attractions in this location.

The first is near the entrance, which is a pair of trees connected together by a big branch. There is a rope in the middle where people tie a pair of tiny bells to wish either romantic love, career success, the third one I'm not sure.

The second is the shrine itself. It looks neat and proper, nothing too special. You buy the tiny bells here to put on the rope tied to the trees near the entrance.

The third one is further inside. It's a 3,000 year old tree.

There is a bus available going to this location, which departs every 90 minutes i.e. 12:31, 14:06, 15:36. Otherwise, you can also catch a taxi, but when we did this option there was only 1 taxi waiting for us. Maybe because we went on a Sunday afternoon.

Takeo shrine is a great stop if you are in the area.

Other than the shrine, you need to check out the 3000 year old tree in the back, after passing a mini bamboo forest.

Not bad for a quick stop!
