HIMEJI STATION

A clean station with many Shinkansen services. There are many shops spread across the area and it takes 20 min to walk to Himeji Castle. There is also a mini model of the castle which was cool.

A sweet gateway station to Himeji castle. There are plenty of things to see and do in the medium-big station itself. Besides, restrooms, lockers, counters, ekiben food kiosks, restaurants. There is also an interesting pastry/sweets delicacy souvenir shop. You can get to Himeji castle by 20min walk, it is quite straight forward (just follow others) straight north literally and you will be at the south gate entrance. Alternatively you can hitch a local bus for one stop (!) but google maps does not show actual bus number but Kanji Japanese names :P There is also a huge proper grocery mart midway (east side) to take a rest stop or aircon/heater and they sell all manners of interesting food items fresh/preserved/packaged to bring home.

Himeji Station is another example of a clean and efficient train station in Japan. The station has lines that connect to many other major hubs. There are many good shops around and places for eating. When you first exit the station you can look up the main road to see the incredible Himeji Castle. I've been told there are busses that go there from the station, but I opted to walk so I can't comment on the service.

Himeji Station is really convenient with a quite high frequency of Shinkansen. Cmmuting to local & Ltd Express is about 5 - 10 mn walk, everything is easy and well indicated. Local Red Wings are comfortable.

Nice and clean station. There's convenience store near Shinkansen transfer gate on the conventional line side.

Clean with lots of shops and good view of the Himeji Castle.
You can even purchases a station access only ticket to see Shinkansen bullet trains that doesn't stop at this station zip by.

This is one of the few stations you can watch the Shinkansen train passing by in a considerably high speed (of course not at its full speed though)

A good clean mid sized station. Note that it does get busy sometimes so make sure to have enough time to book your next Shinkansen ticket.

This is a really nice station, and not as busy or crowded as the really big ones like Tokyo and Kyoto, but with the same conveniences. Himeji is a great city that treated us really well as guests, one of our taxi drivers in Himeji that we got here at the station was the nicest one we had the whole trip and he was so super duper excited to talk to us and was very excited to take us back to our ship in port on Diamond Princess. Really, one of our favorite memories from Japan, the people and their friendliness and excitement. The station was great, nice and clean and efficient. There was an enclosed waiting room to keep you out of the elements while you waited for your train which was a really nice feature since it was freezing cold even thought it was April. The lady that had the little convenience stand was really helpful about showing us where we needed to wait to get on the train. We could see Himeji castle from the platform which was really cool, and one of the highlights was watching the shinkansen blow past us at full speed since not all trains stop in Himeji. It was literally blink and you miss it! I loved riding the shinkansen into Kyoto, which only took about 30 minutes. Amazing! I think we got to Osaka in about 5 minutes it was unreal how fast the train was.

JR Himeji station is gateway to historical town of Himeji. Well maintained station.

A typical Shinkansen station, but very well known to be just in line with the wonderful castle of Himeji. It's a must, not only for the castle, but the gardens and the palace. Then, jump back in the Shinkansen and return to Kyoto... The trip is around 1h each way and a day will be sufficient for the castle and the surroundings. You can easily walk from the station to the castle

Best view while exiting the station of all the stations I've been to in Japan so far. You walk out and are immediately greeted by a straight view down the road of Himeji Castle in the distance.

Foreigner friendly, you can even buy some souvenirs at sevel nearby the gate. Connected with the mall which the centre of the city. Only few kilometers away from well known Himeji castle.

We had JR Rail pass and had to pick a Hikari Shinkansen towards Kyoto in 10 minutes.
A very professional and skilled lady kindly approached and assisted us in perfect English, she navigated through de ticket vending machines very quickly, explained us all the details and took the Shinkansen tickets for us.
We were able to board the Shinkansen, we even had 6-7 minutes of free time!

This station is the target when you need to visit Himeji Castle by Shinkansen from Tokyo station around 3Hr.You can walk or Bus to Himeji Castle by 1.5km.
