Kishi Station

Cozy little train station managed by a cat. The trains that go there are very cutely decorated with a lot of funny details. Make sure to check the schedule of which cat is on site on which day, and which train departs at what time. If you wait a certain amount of time at the station during your visit, you can take one train there, and a different train back.

There are 3 (or 4) trains running on this route, the cat train, strawberry train and toy train on the day we visit. The ticket cannot be purchased at the ticket office of Wagayama JR station. You can only get the ticket on the Platform (platform 9). you will need to tell the staff at the gate that you are travelling on the train so they can get you into the platform area. Buy a day pass if you want a return ticket.

Once get to the terminus, there is really a cat in the shop/museum. Also tried the cat cafe next door. the appearance of the food are also "cats". Once arrived, suggest you visit the cafe and make your order first, then go and visit the shop. you can spend about 30 minutes there and then take the next theme train back.

not sure if Nitama-chan actually enjoys it or not, but being locked in that miserable glass cubicle doing feline things for the tourist paparazzi 6 hours a day would probably drive any normal cat insane, bottomless food notwithstanding. Pleasant place to be if you respect the kayfabe and wish to pay respects to the eternal station-nyaster.

My intention of visiting this place was not for the unique station masters as I really never knew about them, but as After riding the TamaDen, I thought it was amazing. Trains are just so normal in Japan so having this theme and took my travel experience to a different level. Everything’s cute about this station. ✨

Cute station with a cafe that serves delicious matcha ice cream. Nothing much else in the town.

Using one day pass alternating the station in Kishigawa line with the themed train that you like is worthy.

It's definitely worthy to visit here!Here are different local mini trains that both adults and children will enjoy. The cat stationmaster have Wednesday and Thursday off as vacation.

Worth to visit Nitama-chan!

Decades ago this train line serving mainly local residents was in deficit and facing closure. Kishi station master then took Tama the cat in his care, after the store which owned Tama closed. Other comments here have pointed out this is an example of successful merchandising, and this actually benefits both local residents and tourists. Get a coffee at the station cafe or purchase Tama postcards to help keep this railway running :)

Kishi station is a nice quick detour south of osaka. It's a fun themed station with the cat station master (tama). There's not much to do outside of the station, so expect about 15-30 minutes of entertainment.

I have wanted to visit Tama's Station for so long. I wish I could have made it before she passed on. I was thrilled to meet Nitama though. Such a sweet wonderful creature. The little station is so cool! I loved it!!! So many great souvenirs!! The staff of the station were so very friendly and helpful. Thank you so much!! Thank you, Tama, for being such a wonderful station master and ambassador!! We love you

Visited this station 3 years ago, which Tama was still the station master. Worth to visit even if you are not a cat lover. Remember to take the special Tama Train to this station!

Cat lovers will definitely please themselves here.

A normal train station, but there is a cat being station master. There is also a cafe and a souvenirs shop.
