Aoshima Shrine

Free parking at the nearby train station (and in the shade too) - no need to pay for parking. Pleasant walk but very cold and windy in December, do bring something warm to wear.

Another hidden gem in Miyazaki. We need to park the car on the main road and then walk over the bridge to the island, just about 5 minutes. It was windy on the bridge but was so quiet and calm when we got to the island. The shrine is hidden from view amongst tropical trees. Soothed by the bright spiritual energy, pure air, and sound of wave. It is slightly different from the ones in mountain areas.

Great location and really welcoming staff. Be sure to walk all around the island and walk across the Ogre's Washboard to the sea itself. Lots of critters to see in pools along the way!

This shrine is very famous for the spiritual place to get the marriage tie, based on vero old myth.
Many lover couples visit this shrine for praying their eternal love.
So you might be see almost lover couples only.

This shrine is located on the small island and surrounded with characteristic bedrocks, called "the demon's washing board".
You can see it and can walk on it at some places.
It will be interesting opportunity to do that.

You can access there by train and public bus. And if you drive a rent-a-car, you can find many parking lots near the entrance of island. But every parking lot is paid-parking. Not free.
It takes 5-10 minutes walk from the entrance road of the island.
And many souvenir shops are located along the entrance road.

Aoshima Shrine is located on a small island near Miyazaki city. The site has amazing view and atmosphere. There are a lot of benches and tables near the island, so you can bring your own meal and enjoy the view of Aoshima. Parking spaces available nearby as well.

A small temple on the island. Very well maintained and popular with a lot of visitors. Nice architecture with serene ambient. Nice to visit when you are on the island.

This is my 2nd visit to Aoshima shrine.

It's really worth the journey. Every step towards the shrine is so invigorating! Just by listening to the sea waves and smelling the salty ocean is already calming enough.

I strongly recommend more people to visit here!

Beautiful and unique shrine! We loved this one! While we were there, a couple was getting wedding photos, so I didnt want to disturb that process to get photos of the actual shrine, but it was beautiful and well maintained. A couple homemade craft vendors as you come to the Torri as well.

Very beautiful shrine by the beach. It has so many fun ways to get shrine stuff, it’s almost as if you went to a town fair or a festival and there are booths for playing, but a shrine version. You will need to spend some cash though if you want to try these things. Try to remember that the omikuji is not an omiyage so better open it so that you can tie it to the string and leave it at the shrine if it is not favorable for you. Their special summer stamp is very beautiful.

A hour JR from Miyazaki town, worth visiting if you have a day around.
The island is connected to the mainland with a walking bridge, might be possible to walk thru on the sand if it is low tide.

Only jungle and a little shrine, very fun to visit, it gets pretty windy but once you get in it’s warm and humid, they also have bathrooms but deep in the jungle.Palm trees mainly, really nice place.

It was famous honeymoon place in old japan. We understood that right after we experienced it! The shrine and the island was very peaceful, warm and relaxing. definitely would come back again. bought some small souvenirs at 100-300 yen from the small booth run by an old early man. He was very kind to treat us some local yellow oranges as appreciation, a heart warming memory of Aoshima Jinja for us.

Amazing shrine to visit on its own little island that you access by a walking bridge. The scenery inside and out is beautiful.

Beautiful shrine that's a short walk from Aoshima beach. A nice way to break up the beach day, can get locally made soft serve too. Worth 30-45 minutes visiting.

This is shrine is very unique, sitting on an island in close proximity to shore and easily accessed by bridge. There are a couple interesting things you can appreciate around the shrine.

Beautiful shrine with a beautiful scenery, I really recommend going there!

Suggest to visit in the early morning with less visitors there. Just walk to there in 10mins from ANA Holiday Inn Resort.

Usual tourist spot , about 20-30mins of your time
