I gave birth here twice. Once in 2016 and again in 2019. My second experience was by far the best birthing experience I have ever had. I gave them my birth plan and they followed everything it said. I know it’s not to be expected that a birthing experience will go “as planned” because things happen, and can change unexpectedly. They were amazing!! I wish I could remember everyone’s names who were there at the time. I did tons of research for Baby# 3, so I was extremely prepared that time around. I opted out of some things that hospitals normally do, and I didn’t get pressured or asked about birth control. I get so sick and tired of hearing about it while pregnant and right after having a baby. It has been 5 years since I last gave birth. I am 30 years old and I have not been on birth control since I was a teenager. Becoming pregnant with Baby# 2 and Baby# 3 took a lot of hard work, dedication, and patience. With Baby# 3 I almost went off base to a fertility doctor. I made sure to add “please do not pressure or ask about birth control. I am using the family planning method…etc” to my birth plan. They didn’t ask and it made me so happy to not hear that for once. With Baby# 2 I was very stressed out and I didn’t have a plan with me. I also struggled while in the hospital, and had to send my husband to get formula. I always have trouble with getting my children to latch. However, with Baby# 3, I pumped and was extremely successful until I started having other stressors in life. I do which there was more help with breastfeeding or I had taken a class back then after he was born. Pumping was hard, but it was well worth it in my opinion. My other 2 children were allowed to stay in the room and they slept in the recliner (very comfortable) while I gave birth. I was surprised they slept through it. I did not know I was allowed to ask for certain things and ask them to not do certain things, until I did my research and simply just ask them. Everyone was extremely helpful. My least favorite part was the spinal headaches from the epidural, which were so intense (worse than my migraines) it makes me not want to ever get another epidural again. I’ll never forget how much pain I was in, and it lasted all week. Probably 2 weeks total. I had to stay in the hospital for 1 week, and my son was discharged before I was. But he was allowed to stay with me until I was discharged. That’s usually how it goes since I am high risk while pregnant due to giving birth to Baby# 1 at 33 weeks pregnant and having severe preeclampsia and high blood pressure while pregnant. I am high risk with all pregnancies. I had to be induced at 37 weeks with Baby# 2 and Baby# 3. I asked if they would please not use Pitocin to induce me and if we could do something else. They said yes. I also asked if they could please refrain from changing my son and ask beforehand. I also asked them to please do not give my baby a bath, and his first bath will be at home. I was pressured way too much with Baby# 1 and Baby# 2. They were all so amazing and respectful, and I was treated better than I’ve ever been treated. It made me cry I was so happy. I did not have any bad experiences whatsoever and this hospital was so great with my babies and I. The OBGYN was also amazing.

The staff took incredible care of my daughter during a rather rough labor and delivery. The doctors were kind and knowledgeable, and the nurses were hardworking and gentle in their demeanor. My daughter also had to get 2 echocardiograms here, and the technician was phenomenal. Very grateful for a great experience during scary circumstances.

The ER department saved my husbands life and the doctor as well as the nurse were superb at their job. I’ve had terrible experiences at other naval hospitals but this one is the exception.
Great care at this one!

I had a really positive experience at the Naval Hospital this past week. My primary care doctor referred me to Ortho and requested an x-ray for me. I thought it would take up an entire morning getting a walk-in x-ray and then seeing the Orthopedist but it was really fast! There were about a half dozen people ahead of me in radiology but they saw me within 5 minutes of signing in and the x-ray process took no more than another 4-5 minutes.

I showed up 20 minutes early for the Orthopedist but was seen immediately since the doctor was running ahead of schedule (umm that never happens!). I had a dozen questions for Dr. Rockwood and he was incredibly patient and answered all of them - and then some! I didn't feel rushed out at all and really appreciated him providing so much context. The best part was that I didn't lose an entire morning waiting around doing doctor appointments!

I love the Naval Hospital. The healthcare professionals are respectful and kind individuals and I feel like they actually want to help me. This is a distinct contrast to the clinics on bases who I feel I am a burden to. I've utilized Optometry, Opthalmology, and Covid testing services. And I know others who have utilized the physical therapy services in assisting with their injuries. I've only experienced and heard good things.

I’ve always liked the Navy Hospital.

One thing I would love to see is a couch or rest area seating on the basement floor (to the left of the elevators, under the picture) - close to the dining facility.

The upstairs waiting area is great but it’s for people using the pharmacy.

A lot of old folks, hurting folks, and a bit lazy folks would really appreciate it.

You can get US medical care in Japan. It can be used by people who belong to the US military and their families and civilian employees.Whether Japanese employees can use it depends on the US military base.At the very least, bring a military card if you want to use it here.
