Saruhashi

Saruhashi Bridge, which spans the deep and beautiful valley of the Katsuragawa River, is called one of Japan's three strange bridges, along with ``Iwakuni Kintai Bridge'' and ``Kiso Pier'' due to its unusual structure. The unique scenery of the bridge, which spans a beautiful valley that changes with the seasons, is said to be one of the most scenic spots on the Koshu Highway, and has been visited by many writers and artists. Among them, Hiroshige Utagawa (Ando) was so moved by the beauty of Saruhashi that he left behind a book called ``Koyo Saruhashi no Zu''.

The Saruhashi Bridge (猿橋) is also known as the 'monkey bridge'. Spanning the gorge of the Katsura River, it is a prime example of the hanebashi design. The bridge is supported by a series of cantilever beams set in the opposing cliff faces. Built mid-18th century, the Saruhashi was along the Koshu Kaido (main highway of the Edo period). We briefly stopped to enjoy the elegant design of the bridge and the scenic beauty of the gorge filled with ginkgo and maple trees.

The name 'monkey bridge' is associated with a local legend in which monkeys bridged the chasm with their bodies so that a couple could cross during the Nara period. A later story tells that the original rickety plank structure was so precarious that "only an agile monkey could cross it".

Great place to fly the drone around, get some great views!

Was thinking weather to go there after a hike. Decided to go and it was worth the extra walk. Great view and it is really high.

日本三大奇橋(岩国の錦帯橋、木曽の架け橋、山梨の猿橋)の一つ。甲州街道の旅で歩いて訪れました。高さ31mに橋脚を使わない方法で架けられた珍しい橋です。少し下ると、橋を斜め下から見ることができ、その構造を確認できますよ。

日本三大奇橋の一つ。
中央線の最寄り駅からは20分程度歩く。バスの本数も少ないので、車で行くのが良いと思う。駐車場完備。
木製の橋で、釘を使わずに組んであるらしい。
橋の上からの眺めも良いが、下に降り橋を見上げたり、隣にある橋からの眺めも良い。
橋の手前には山王宮というお社があるので、それを参拝してから橋を眺めるのも一つかなと思う。

11月13日に行きました。無料の駐車場が３か所程有るようですが20台位の小さい駐車場です。管理されたトイレが有ります。瓦屋根の様な飾りの付いた橋で渓谷や周りの景色に合ってとても綺麗です。川の水はキレイなようで橋の上からでも沢山の魚が游いでいるのが解りました。有料でゴムボートで遊覧が出来るようです。ですが、見る場所が少なく、食べ物屋さんもあまり無いのですぐに移動するようになると思います。近くに猿橋公園が有ります。

都内にいると、山梨と言うと富士五湖とか甲府の方ばかりだと思ってたけど、大月の手前にこんなに綺麗な所があるとは思わなかった。
秋とかだともっと良いだろうなー
