Definitely worth visiting if you're in Hirosaki
Great exhibition, friendly staff, and they speak English!
Just across the street from the castle so you don't even have to go our of your way to visit.

We came here on a limited time frame due to the bad weather and snow storms going on. I wish I could have stayed longer. The place is a must visit in Hirosaki and you have to try a few of the crafts. They take time so if you plan to go you can see tsugaru shamisen style, learn and practice yourself, make so many different types of crafts, so many you would need a full day to try them all! The owner was so funny and kind to us. I will definitely be back.

Very lovely exhibition. We were also right on time for the performance. Love the style of display, does not feel like a museum at all but is very informative.

It's important to visit places like this to learn about the local culture. Not many people so you can really take your time and view the items on display. I love Aomori!

Absolute must visit location for Tsugaru fans. For a small fee you get a short shamisen performance by an amazingly talented artist; can watch craftsmen at work making tsugarunuri, tops, and kokeshi; relax at a beautiful garden; and take away some souvenirs not readily found elsewhere.

I liked the place very much. I wish I can enjoy the festival in the summer, too! I loved the experience of playing the drum and listening the shamisen performance. Beautiful music!

A quaint museum featuring a number of things despite its limited size. It starts with an explanation of the Neputa festival and floats, including a flute and taiko drum demonstration. They let you try playing the drums too.

Other than the various Neputa floats on display, you can also enjoy a shamisen performance, spinning top demonstration, Japanese garden and traditional crafts. Overall, I think it was quite worth the 550 yen entry fee (for adults).

Came to Hirosaki for the cherry blossoms and stopped here during the day. The name "Neputa Village" is appropirate. It's actually a collection of buildings with a lot of things to do. For an entrance fee of about 500 yen, you get a tsugaru shamisen performance (depending on the time of day), a museum for the Tsugaru festival floats, a display of Tsugaru shamisen history, and you can watch someone crafting regional products like lanterns or wooden toys. There are brochures in several languages, and displays have a little bit of English. There are also lots of opportunities to buy souvenirs, and tasty food stalls outside. Overall, its definitely worth checking out.

Beautiful!
A museum about traditional local arts, mainly about the local festival and all the little hand behind it. Some of them you can actually meet in their art shop. Few actually talk a bit of English. Plus a shamisen concert done by a professional and Koi carp in a beautiful Japanese garden. If you go to Hirosaki, it's a visit you have to do.

We did the tsugarunuri lesson here. It helps if you can speak Japanese. Was really fun lesson, and great that you get your own tsugarunuri product (takes 2 weeks to be finished off). I found out I am not very good at sanding a curved surface evenly! We also learned how they make different patterns and products. Really enjoyed my visit.

FYI we did not have to book in advance (we went on a week day). If you do a lesson parking is free for 1.5hrs. If you buy anything from the shop you get an additional 1hr free parking - so we bought some snacks at the gift shop and walked over to Hirosaki Castle grounds.

Very nice and friendly staff. Price is okai. They let you use the bug drums if you come at the right time and there's also a free shamisen performance.
The nebuta art alone is worth the trip though. You even to see the inside of one and how they are designed.

Small but a lot of interesting things inside. Not just Neputa. You can enjoy traditional music and handmade souvenirs, too.
