Worth a visit. It’s only ¥500 per adult guest and there are quite a few different - original! - Japanese farmhouses. Most have pretty good English explanations showing the regional differences in the architecture and the reasons behind them. This park is also a nice break from Hattori Ryokichi Park. That IS a nice park, it can just get a little congested and noisy. The Open air Museum was not crowded at all around noon on a mid-March day. Maybe only 4-5 people besides me. If you are lucky and it is mildly raining, the farmhouses are beautiful places to shelter and listen. Almost zen-like.

Got to experience Osaka with wearing of kimono and montsuki, and attending the tea ceremony!
Beautiful experience! Would love to thank our friends Yoko and Aico for bringing us!

One of my favourite places I visited on my trip to Osaka and the best museum. Entry was only like ¥500, totally worth it. They lifted the houses directly from their original locations and you can go inside and walk around. Lots of cool artefacts and a nice English explanation in front of each house. They don’t just have houses, there’s also a tea house (you can do a tea ceremony there), kabuki theatre, and a plum garden.

Went on Feb 19 and it turns out they were holding a special event promoting tourism in Nagano. We sat in the Akiyama, Nagano house and had a little presentation and tried some local snacks (tomato juice from Akiyama, amazake, mochi). They also sold traditional sweets at the gift shop after and they were delicious!

A fun place for family and friends. I highly encourage making your way up to the North end of Osaka. It’s near enough to Umeda so not too out of the way. It’s a fun place to see what old Japan looked like in different places and times.

It’s great for tourists and was not crowded when we went. We also bought some local art!

Interesting, quaint little place which is refreshing devoid of tourists, and in fact any other person at all. Exbibits olden homes of japanese peasants, with some houses open for exploration. Slightly lacking in english explanation, but most of the exhibits should be self-explanatory.

Museum is a 15-20 min walk from the nearest station, so be prepared. Entrance fee 500Y. Your mileage may vary, but more or less an interesting place to spend an hour.

This place is very quiet and never thought that its exhausting to follow the map and visit the Japanese old farm house one by one. There is several ceremonies (Tea ceremony, etc) by months that you can come and plants that you can see by the seasons.

My favourite place in Osaka!! The place was empty, no tourists, so it felt like our own private village.

The staff were super friendly and used all the English they knew to explain everything to me - and anything else my Japanese friend helped translate. We spent maybe an hour sat in one of the houses by a fire speaking with the old woman who worked there. And the old man in the Shirakawa house told me about the history of the building, the family that lived there, and the silkworms they raised.

There are many different types of traditional houses to explore in and out. We easily spend 2~3 hours there - and I'm rarely at a place more than 30mins!

Excellent place to go if you want to travel back in time. Make sure you take the stamp booklet at the counter and then stamp your booklet at each of the houses. A great place to go with the family.

This is my favorite place to visit in the whole Osaka area, definitely right up there with Osaka Castle. It is easy to get to by subway/train. I love the beautiful traditional farmhouses from all over Japan, and the two times I've been here it was quite peaceful. It is a little like Greenfield Village back home in Michigan, but focused only on rural farmhouses and a lot less crowded and less commercialized. Pretty cheap to enter. I suppose sometimes there will be groups of Japanese schoolkids, but they'd be cute to watch too.

Now that I have a 6 year old daughter of my own, I brought her to Japan with me and she loved stamping the sheet of paper at each farmhouse... as well as the HUGE park full of playground equipment located nearby. Also even on a hot day in August we found some older ladies tending an indoor cooking fire at one of the farmhouses, and they were willing to pose for photos with my daughter. Along with other pleasant experiences elsewhere on our trip, my daughter now loves Japan and says she'd like to live there.

What a wonderful quiet place. It's inside a good sized park and only about 30 minutes from the city. There are farm houses from all over Japan, many of which you can go into and walk around in. The staff are also very lovely and appeal English.

This is an incredible open air museum, largely overlooked by foreign tourists and Japanese tourists alike. The farmhouses were moved here from different parts of Japan and as such show a wide variety of architectural styles. Highly recommended!

If you are in Osaka, definitely come and take a stroll through this wonderful museum.

The entrance fee was only 500¥.
This is very cheap considering how amazingly beautiful the houses were and how much it must cost to look after them.

Much better experience than I expected. Old farmhouses from all over the country have been brought to this corner of Hattori Park, restored and reassembled. Information in English is widely available. It is a good way to spend 2 hours outside the very chaotic city that is Osaka.

While it has been several years since my visit - this is one of the most memorable museum experiences I have ever had. To see different historical construction techniques, and almost travel through time, was extremely impactful. I highly recommend a visit.

They move the actual farm house with all the original building material here. You can experience more then 10 kind of difference old Japanese farm house here. The one farm house that interested me most is from the famous Shirogawago.
