Such an incredible place to stay and recommend it to anyone looking to take a break from big city vibes. The staff is so kind and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The food was really delicious and the meal presentation was out of this world. The private onsen was amazing too. A truly unforgettable experience. Big thank you to everyone at Suisen resort!!

We stayed here for one night in spring 2023 and it was a beautiful ryokan! We reserved a room with a private onsen on our balcony.

The onsen was beautiful with natural foliage in full bloom. The water is quite hot but you adjust quickly, and it’s especially nice in a cooler season. The resort was very quiet, clean, and tranquil. We did not find the western style bed comfortable as it was very small and somewhat lumpy, but it was mostly fine. Our room contained assorted drinks which we really enjoyed after soaking in the hot water! We selected rental yukatas that we also wore to dinner.

We also chose the kaiseki dinner and breakfast accommodations, which were served in a semi-private dining room. The springtime flavors were excellent, and the chef kindly provided menu adjustments and vegetarian options (request these well in advance). The dinner host did not know English, but we of course did not mind. She kindly used a translation app to describe certain things. My travel partner is an intermediate-level Japanese speaker, so he was able to follow most of the conversation, but some cooking styles and ingredients were helpful for her to translate. The meal was very filling yet felt light with so much variety. At the end, the chef greeted us at our table. We weren’t sure what exactly the best custom was to properly show our gratitude for the meal, but hopefully they could understand our appreciation!

The hotel offered a convenient shuttle service (also reserve in advance) between the resort and the train station. If you do not rent a car, you will basically need the shuttle because it is not at all within walking distance. The driver was very kind!

Note that this resort is pretty far out in the countryside. If you’re used to being able to walk a block from your hotel to pick up a konbini sando, plan ahead so you have everything you need before boarding the shuttle. The area is more of a remote getaway.

Given how beautiful the resort was and how much energy it took to get there and back from our main Kyoto area hotel, I would suggest staying for two nights. Our stay felt very short because we had to rush for the travel timing. I also recommend using a luggage forwarding or storage service if you plan to stay a day or two here because large suitcases are unnecessary and risk damaging the tatami (always gently lift and set your suitcase if you do bring it). The staff also moves your luggage for you, and I felt bad that I brought my huge bag full of three weeks’ worth of stuff!

Overall, it is a great option for couples seeking a peaceful retreat. It offers a blend of traditional Japanese architecture and hospitality with many modern comforts.

From the moment of arrival, I was immersed in such kindness and generosity from the Ryokan staff. I am able to get by with my beginner Japanese, but the staff was very accommodating toward many different languages. Each curated meal was more than an experience. While the food choices are slightly different than what is offered in western (American) Japanese restaurants, everything was carefully selected to keep the meal balanced. The private onsen was such a blissful experience. My wife and I have larger tattoos so we did not want to make others uncomfortable in public baths, but honestly really enjoyed the privacy of the onsen.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for a stay I’ll always remember.

Stayed here twice on both my visits to Japan and Suisen was the highlight of our trip. From the moment you enter to the moment you leave you are treated like royalty. Amazing spacious room with private onsen on the balcony. The experience was so tranquil and relaxing. Soaking in the onsen with the views of the beautiful gardens down below spectacular. The included dinner and breakfast was top tier as well. Would 100% recommend this experience!

My girlfriend and I stayed here in November 2023 and we absolutely loved it. This was my first Ryokan experience and I was a bit apprehensive about the cost (not just here but in general), however any worry of overpaying was immediately dispelled the moment we stepped in the resort. The staff are exceptionally friendly, polite, and helpful, even by Japanese standards. The shuttle pickup from Kameoka-eki was very straightforward and checking in was a smooth process (made even better by a delicious welcome treat of matcha and a pistachio mochi). The walkthrough of the resort and our room was very comprehensive without dragging on too long.

As far as our actual stay, I can only say that it was truly perfect. Our room was gigantic and the amenities in it (i.e. snacks/drinks, toiletries, pajamas, bath robes, etc.) were fantastic. The highlight for us though was obviously the private outdoor bath, especially stepping into it from the cool autumn air and looking out onto the gardens. This place really captures the magic of something like a Ghibli movie scene of the Japanese countryside, and its hard to believe in the moment that you're really here experiencing it.

Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the food. I was absolutely blown away by the variety, the intricacy of the presentations, and the quality. Of course, the quantity is quite a lot as well, and this is where you'll realize you're getting your money's worth. Both the dinner and the breakfast were delicious and left us absolutely stuffed, yet wishing we had room to repeat some of the best dishes. Some highlights from the menus we were served included the best miso soup I've ever had, barracuda with tofu and vegetables, wagyu (of course) and an insane corn dressing served with the salad at breakfast. For some reference, my girlfriend and I dine out a LOT (ranging from street food everywhere we travel to world-renowned tasting menus and everything in between) and thought each dish here was exceptional, but the chef's sauces and broths were really top notch and the highlight of most of the dishes.

I spent a combined 3 weeks in Japan this year, and this was the highlight of all of it. Our only regret from our stay is not booking it for longer!!

One of my favourite experiences in Japan. Located near Kameoka, just outside Kyoto, it's relatively easy to get to. They have a shuttle that will pick up up from the Kameoka train station. It's really quiet and peaceful.

The rooms are huge, and the view is amazing. The private outdoor bath was the highlight.

The staff were so friendly. They went above and beyond to make it a memorable stay. Dinner was in a semi private room. We had a kaiseki style dinner that was delicious and looked great. The chef came out at the end of dinner to ask how it was.

I definitely plan to go back.

This place was magical. From the moment you walk in you're treated with an almost unbelievable amount of hospitality. Be ready to decide what time you want your dinner, breakfast, and shuttle rides to be. The rooms were incredible, and we loved all the drinks in the mini fridge, which were included and restocked each night. Someone mentioned in another review that you needed to stay at least two nights so you could actually get to enjoy your stay, and we're so glad we listened. We got a room with the hot tub in the balcony and it was magical to watch the sunrise from there. The rooms themselves were comfortable and beautiful. And the staff was incredible - so attentive. All the staff knew what our schedules were, and when my husband was so tired from jetlag he had to retire early from dinner, they packed two riceballs for him in case he got hungry and sent our dessert up to our room so we could still eat it together. When I mentioned how much I loved the nori they had, they brought me extra. We felt really terrible because we weren't able to finish all of the food because we were so full, but we tried so many new things and loved it. Everything was prepared so carefully and beautifully. This was the highlight of our trip!

What a beautiful experience at this ryokan. Being here in the fall, the leaves are changing colors, the ryokan grounds are well maintained, and the overall architecture is relaxing. The staff are incredible and were very accommodating to me speaking English. The check-in was easy and had us choose dinner, breakfast, and shuttle times going back.
The lobby is clean and quiet large, with free hot beverages and ice cream. You're greeted with hot tea and mochi/daifuku when you arrive. They show you to your room and explain all the different aspects from lounge and formal wear provided, to the complementary drinks and coffee in the room.
I was lucky and the public bath was empty when I went. The bath was clean with plenty of personal care products provided. I loved sitting outside enjoying the scenery and it started to rain, giving an even better experience.
The kaiseki meal was spectacular. The food was plentiful, delicious, and had a beautiful artistic presentation. The server was friendly and fluid, explaining every dish.
I have no complaints about my stay and only wish I could have stayed longer.

TL;DR This is absolutely worth it. Amazing experience. I'd do it again!

Ok now the details.

PICK UP FROM KAMEOKA STATION
If you tell Kyo Yunohana in advance, they'll give you timeslots so they can pick you up with a private shuttle from Kameoka Station South Exit.

ARRIVAL
You will be asked to remove your shoes. From here on, you'll be wearing indoor slippers. After arriving, we were given matcha and mochi while they were checking us in. They'll ask for your size and color preferences of yukata while checking in (you have to wear it for dinner and breakfast) + preferred time for dinner and breakfast + if you want to reserve for the open air private bath.

ROOM
We booked a room with tatami and en suite onsen. It was a very lovely room. You get various nice amenities, linen pajamas, drinks in the fridge (drinks are all free).

DINNER AND BREAKFAST
(I don't remember if there are options to exclude this but I very strongly recommend that you get dinner and breakfast with your reservation).
Anyway dinner was absolutely fantastic! It was a 9-course kaiseki meal (and we paid extra to get tenderloin instead of sirloin). We also got a bottle of green tea umeshu for just ¥4900. It was a truly lovely experience! The chef even came in to greet us.
Breakfast was also kaiseki multi-course meal. Equally lovely food.

ONSEN
They have a public bath and an open air private bath. The reception host will ask you during check in if you want to reserve time for the open air private bath. You get 50mins reservation if you do.

This is a super lovely experience! It's pricey, yes, but I think it's truly worth it. I was told not to go for cheaper ryokans if I want the full and proper experience so here I am. Ah, we'll definitely come back here.

Really fun experience and great communication from shuttle pickup through the whole stay. Loved the private onsen and open air bath on the room. Very unique dining experience with all sorts of food. Great location not far from Kyoto for a 1 night excursion

Absolutely incredible, we were SO blown away by how amazing our stay was.

We got the spacious room with the open air bath. HIGHLY recommend a room with a private bath!! We were soaking every few hours. The view from the bath was fantastic and the bedroom was so comfortable. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, definitely the comfiest we've had in our entire trip. The room has a modern tatami section that felt great to walk on barefoot. There was a rain shower and a bathroom stocked full of L'Occitane products. The fridge is stocked with juices and alcohol, all included. The room is also surprisingly high tech, with ceiling AC and a ton of controls next to the bedside. They have night lights on the feet of walls and a dimming reading light that points to your bed from the ceiling. There is also a tv above the bed so you can watch tv while resting.

They also provided us with beautiful yukata which actually fit my 6ft tall American husband!

The service was impeccable. We were picked up at Kameoka station and were driven to the resort. We were welcomed with snacks, mochi, and tea. Dinner service and breakfast were amazing, they were hosted in private dining rooms and the service was so friendly! They try their best to speak English to us, so we were never lost. During dinner the chef came out and asked us if we were enjoying our meal, so sweet!

The scenery is so beautiful and serene. It was raining for our stay which made it very zen. The train/van ride over was beautiful, it's so mountainous and close to nature. If you imagine Kyoto's beautiful foliage, this is that but even further in the mountain side. Very easy to access from Kyoto station. The entire trip was <1hr and completely worth it!!! We can't wait to come back!

We had an absolutely delightful stay here! All of the staff did their absolute best to make us feel right at home - from taking care of all of our luggage, to showering us with snacks, to introducing us to all aspects of the ryokan. The kaiseki and breakfast were so delicious.. there was even unlimited frozen mochi and haagen-dazs, and delicious drinks in our well-stocked fridge! Our room (the western-style one) was wonderful - the outdoor private onsen was the perfect size and had a great view of the surrounding forest. There was also an in-room massage chair which we used multiple times 😂we would 100% stay here again and are looking forward to visiting once more! Thank you for the hospitality!

If you are looking for serenity on the edge of the old capital of Japan (Kyoto), look no further.
This ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) only as about a dozen rooms in varying size and amenities, but they have a unique system to ensure that your stay is the closest to what I can only describe as serenity.
Once you arrive, you are properly greeted in a traditional manner, your luggage is transported quickly to your room as the staff that greeted you runs up the stairs at ninja speed and greet you again when you step out the elevator.
They schedule your dining and such so you have minimal interactions with other guests. And you get to enjoy some high-end yet creative Japanese traditional food without distractions.
If you are a foodie, you have also come come to the right place!
I highly recommend this place for pure relaxation and indulgence.
By the way, this place does not allow large group or kids to ensure pure relaxation

What a gem! We arrived at a station and the shuttle bus picked us up. As we arrive they greet us with matcha tea and mochi. We got the choice of upgrades or booking massages.

No one was using the public baths on the two occasions we went so it was a giant onsen (indoor and outdoor) to myself.

We had a room with an in suite onsen which was also really nice since it was connected to the shower.

Stayed two nights, first night was kaiseki, breakfast was a mini kaiseki in a tray, 2nd night dinner was several courses with sukiyaki as the finale, and again another mini kaiseki breakfast.

Staff were super attentive and were very polite and attentive. They would greet you and bow everytime you passed by (reception would stand up and greet you and bow).

Lobby has a selection of ice creams and coffee machines. Your room comes woth snacks and some boozes. This was all free to enjoy.

A must stay for a special occasion. I reccommend 2 nights to really get a full days worth uninterrupted.

Staffs were ready to welcome us.

Matcha + sweets to welcome us. Can select our own yukata.

A lot of free drinks provided in the room.

Huge room. Private baths. It has public bath as well.

More clothing provided that you could wear!

WiFi is a bit weak, about 30 Mbps download and 15 Mbps upload (used speedtest app). But it's ok, around 3 MB/s download.

Beautiful dinner and breakfast. Heated mat for our feet.

Overall, old building, but they make it up by super, excellent service.

Yunohana Onsen Resort is an absolute gem that offers a truly unforgettable experience. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed with warm hospitality and exceptional service that truly sets this resort apart.

One of the standout features of this resort is their attention to detail, particularly when it comes to their special touches for special occasions. The chopsticks and photo frame given as an anniversary gift were a lovely surprise that added an extra personal touch to our stay. It was a thoughtful gesture that we really appreciated.

The spa at Yunohana is truly amazing and well worth the money. The ayurvedic oil treatment is incredibly relaxing and restorative, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. The therapists are highly skilled and provide a level of service that is second to none.

The food at the resort is absolutely fantastic, with delicious dinner and breakfast options that are sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate. The ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, and the presentation is beautiful. Dining at Yunohana is truly an experience in itself.

The Onsen spa is the crown jewel of this resort. It is immaculately clean and authentic, providing a truly immersive experience in Japanese culture. The water is warm and soothing, and the view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. It is the perfect way to unwind and relax after a day of exploring.

With a free shuttle bus from the train station the travel is taken care of the room was more like an apartment than that of a hotel room. The dinner was out of this world amazing. hats off to chef Shinji Kobayashi. Each course of the eight course meal was an absolute delight. Well worth every last penny spent.

Beautiful property located in...middle of nowhere.
Although it was extremely humid and hot in Kyoto, Suisen was sitting in a bit chilly foggy weather with drizzling rain. Perfect 🥰 time to take a hot bath in the notenburo.
The food, especially the simmered Sakura shrimp broth, was so simple, delicate, yet warmed the body.
The dinner course was so filling. In the end, they had to make omusubi for leftover ginger rice.
I would love to come back again.
I didn't find much to do around the ryokan. It's pretty remote, it seems.
