Beautiful, day or night. There are some nice trails around the mountain, but sadly, coming from the city on foot there are no sidewalks, be careful.

The statue itself was absolutely beautiful. I would suggest coming to this area in the beginning of August as they have a lantern festival there. Unfortunately due to covid we weren't able to enter the statue, but we wandered around the beautiful area, where there were many little shops and attractions. Make sure to get here before 6 pm during lockdowns as they close quite early.

Beautiful scenery and worth the hike! Even though it was a holiday, the place isn't crowded.

Tip: The place looks amazing during the golden hour in the afternoon.

Great location to start your walk about- view the giant Goddess of Mercy Statue then on to the shrine. Walking further past the souvenir shops would bring u to a route through the park/forestry reserve area with some stunning views of a suspension bridge. Quite a walk so do go prepped with walking shoes n light gear with a light jacket just in case the wind acts up. After approximately 45-60 mins into the walk there is a turn off on the left which is signed (unfortunately only in Kanji) which denotes the route down a series of broad steps to the caves. There’s refreshments n a short tour at the caves if one is interested. In front of the caves is a bus stop which one can catch the direct bus back to Takasaki Station, near to the stop is a nice Cafe situated opposite across the road from the bus stop. It serves excellent tea/coffee n cakes- a nice finishing touch to a great walk about. The owner is very friendly, welcoming and very helpful. They also do great dinners but we did not have the benefit of time to experience it. It was a wonderful day trip to experience Takasaki, Gunma.

Very peaceful temple. Very beautiful views all around. You can go inside the statue! Especially pretty with momiji, and probably sakura too! Cafe open 4 days a week.

Take a bus No.13 or No.14 from Takasaki Station Platform 8 about half an hour to get here easily. Return to station with the same bus No.

A fun visit to a local monument towering over the city. An easy 30 minute diversion worth the experience and the views. Don't miss some wonderful hikes in the area as well accessible from the parking lot.

A typical Japanese Buddhist temple... can't walk to there from the jr station. But you can take the bus to the front. Nice place for sightseeing.

This was a very enjoyable afternoon outing from Takasaki. Thanks to Pugwash's review with precise bus details we knew exactly what to do and it went very smoothly. The lady at the shop next to the bus stop at the shrine was very friendly and helpful and her ice creams were delicious.
