Tonari no Totoro Bus Stop

Nice little detour on your road trip for photo taking if you love the totoro series. The owners kindly provided a little stand for you to take photos and also a little red umbrella for 100 yen. Be mindful that it is a private property and the above is all self service.

A beautiful spot for photos, albeit out of the way. The bus stop is located on private property so be conscious when you visit. They provide an umbrella prop for 100 yen and a selfie stand.

It is so beautiful. It's a private property, so you have to maintain the courtesy. You can enjoy by yourself. No one will be there without other visitors. There are some souvenirs, games and a umbrella. You can buy the souvenirs by yourself and keep the money in the piggy bank. You can also rent the umbrella for 100 yen. Parking available.

It’s the greatest place to take photogenic pictures especially if you love Mr. Hayao Miyazaki’s animation movies. It is inside a privately-owned premises but still open to public for photo shoots. Around this area, you can enjoy good quality Onsen, hot spring spa, since this area is very close to active volcanoes.
The mountain you can see behind Totoro is Mt. Kirishima, which is a really beautiful mountain like Mt. Fuji. The name of the most popular Shochu alcohol in Japan, Kirishima Schochu, is named after this mountain.
The best season to come to this place is in September because the rice in the fields behind Totoro is ripe and yellow, which makes the good contrast against the sky.
Come to this place just to take pictures, and also to enjoy Onsen spas!!!

Nestled in this scenic rural setting stands a life-sized cement statue of the beloved Ghibli character Totoro. Amusement seekers can pose next to their favourite woodland spirit and even don the famous bright red umbrella used by the child Mei in the film.

While enjoying their visit, fans may also overhear some rather disturbing shrieks and wails. No, it's not Totoro himself but his fellow critters emitting this blight. In stark contrast to this idyllic scene, the sounds of slaughter from a nearby pig farm pierce the air.

Perhaps placed here in order to elicit thoughtful reflection or more likely simply to fill bowls of tonkatsu, revellers are given front row seats to witness their very own cognitive dissonance in action as they snap smiley selfies with a creature that looks like it could feed a family for a year, all while the din of death provides a delightful backing track.

The experience may remind one of another film called Okja. Here, a creature that looks surprisingly like a cross between Totoro and a pig befriends a young girl in a rural Korean woodland. However, unlike Totoro, Okja isn't permitted to peacefully hang out at a bus stop. Instead he finds himself across the street, in the slaughterhouse.

Overall 5-star experience, would recommend!

左官さんがお孫さんの為にコンクリートだけで作ったトトロだそうです。手作りでこのフォルム、すごい完成度で驚かされます！
ロケーションも良くて、トトロと並んでとても素敵な写真が撮れます♪
入口の横に駐車場3台、プラス少し離れた場所にも駐車場があるとのことです。私有地なので、迷惑にならないようにご注意ください。

霧島と田んぼとトトロなんて贅沢すぎます！
おまけに夕日まで！
きっとたくさんの人達の思い出の場所になってきたのだろうなと思います。
子供ができたらこのトトロとたくさん写真撮って、成長を記録するのもありだなぁと勝手に妄想してしまってます笑

とてもいい天気☀で、トトロと後ろの稲穂が🌾ゆらゆら映えて、良い感じでした。

おみくじは大吉が出ました。
ガチャで出てきた、手作り風のまっくろくろすけも、可愛くて連れて帰りました。

トトロを見に行ってきました〜！✨

天気も良かったので、いい写真を沢山撮ることが出来ました。個人宅の敷地内に置いてあるので、配慮ある楽しみ方が特に大事な観光スポットです。

傘も100円でレンタルすることができ、雨の日はトトロの名場面を再現することも可能です。

近くにある湯之元温泉もセットでおすすめです。

個人宅の敷地を開放して、霧島連山をバックに、大人の背丈より大きくてリアルなオブジェが飾られています。
70歳になった左官歴50年の職人さんが孫や子どもたちのために、夫婦でセメントで手作りしたそうです。
夜間は立入禁止です。

近くの湯之元温泉を利用した時に立ち寄りました。歩いて１分ほどです。立派なトトロ像があり、周りの景色と相まって見入ってしまいます。民家の庭にありますので早朝、夜は避けましょう。１００円で傘がレンタル出来たりガチャガチャがあったりと楽しめます。人気があるようで写真撮影は譲り合いしましょう。
