I had originally planned to go to Puroland in Tokyo but they were closed the day I had availability, so I thought I'd missed my opportunity to go to a Sanrio themed park. I was so delighted when I saw a brochure for Harmonyland while we were in Beppu. We took a taxi from our hotel. I was completely charmed by Harmonyland from the moment I saw the front gates. It's so completely magical. As far as amusement parks go (at least from an American perspective) it's on the smaller side. You can easily see & so everything in less than a day. It's definitely geared towards families with small children. The shops are adorable, the rides are enchanting, the activities are fun, & the food was decent. We were there in late November & it was light on character appearances. In fact, Hello Kitty was the only one we saw and we almost missed her. It was a little unclear to us, when & where characters & shows would be. But other than that, it was perfect.

The park may be a bit older, but it's definitely well-maintained and the ticket prices are very reasonable. What really stood out to us was the fact that the park wasn't crowded at all - there were no long lines for rides and we were able to enjoy everything at a relaxed pace. Plus, there were plenty of rides that were perfect for younger children. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend Hello Kitty Harmonyland to families with young kids. I went here as an adult very big hello kitty fan. I love every minute of it. The outdoor rides and indoor games. The parade is amazing!!!

Great place to take your kids or your cute date here. Not sure if it’s because of COVID, but it was very spacious and not crowded at all we visited on a weekend.

In fact, it was the perfect time to visit as the Sakura trees were blooming over some of the rides near the Ferris wheel. The park closes pretty early though (16:30) for a Saturday.

Easy to take JR from Halats (9:21am)to Kitsuki (11:11am) and there is the bus (11:17am) to the harmonyland directly ( 270yen bus ) arrive around 11:30 😊

Harmony Land in Oita is the Disneyland for Hello Kitty. It is a very cute theme park for all children and Hello Kitty enthusiasts. Of course, other Sanrio characters are present as well. There is a show at the Kitty Cafe in the morning as well as a parade at around midday. The rides are also interesting but be prepared for a long wait.

Fun place. You will enjoy even you are not super found of Hello Kitty. Admission is cheap compared to other amusement parks. (¥3,000 per person. )

We went in a Friday and there were not a lot of guests. Sadly the Hello Kitty house is currently under renovation so we did not get to visit.
The show was beautiful and amazing
The kids loved the boat ride. The attractions were outdated but still lots of fun for the kids. Not having to queue for attractions was bonus. We spent about 4 hours in the park.

Great place to bring kids. Not much for adults to do besides enjoying good food and the energetic parade / show.

A place which is suitable to spend half day to play with your kids. My family enjoyed the night show very much. The show is worth to watch.

It is a weird place to build a theme park BUT!!! I love it!! It was not very crowded and you should come during Christmas time where they have Christmas Lightning and it is so cool!!! The admission is affordable and you just need to take taxi from the train station. I miss my time living in small town in Japan :(

Such an awesome place for children! Lines were a bit long but it was still fun. I totally recommend it.

I've been here a number of times over the years with my daughter, who is now 9 years old, and its my favorite amusement park! (She thinks its great as well!)

Harmonyland is a Sanrio themed theme park featuring Japanese characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody and Kuromi, Jewelpets, Sugarbunnies, and my personal favorite, Bad Badtzmaru. It's not huge, but it has a fair number of rides, including a big and small roller coaster, a spectacular Ferris wheel and and a two level merry-go-round. You can visit Kitty Castle (Hello Kitty's house with cute decorations) and Kitty Lab (unless they've replaced Kitty Lab with something new). My daughter's favorites are the Jet Coaster and Kitty Lab. Its mostly geared toward younger kids (10 and under, though any Hello Kitty fan will love it).

They have several live shows each day on a couple of different stages as well as a once-a-day parade which is amazing ("Welcome Noah" and a different one in the summer). Be sure to see the parade if you go (check the schedule for the time)! Search youtube for "Harmonyland Parade" if you want to see some footage.

The buildings and park are very well maintained and the landscaping is beautiful. Some folks have complained that the park is run down, but it doesn't look that way to me. I always notice people pruning or painting or cleaning. The folks working there are true to the Japanese tradition of excellent service. There's a fast food restaurant (Harvest House) that has decent food and a well-executed tree house theme. There's a also a "Sanrio's Girl Shop" that's full of extra-cute stuff.

Perhaps the best part is that the lines are short to non-existent. The occasional costumed Sanrio character comes out on the main square to meet the kids and kids (or adults) can actually spend several minutes interacting with Hello Kitty--not just stand in a long line for a brief photo. The downside is that park is so sparsely attended that they often close the lower half of the park (where an amazing boat ride is located) for most of the day, but they do make a point of opening the boat ride part of each day so everyone has a chance to see it. There may be Japanese holidays where the park is packed or weekends in the summer time, but I have yet to encounter crowds.

Across New Years they have a special "Illumination" event where the park is open until 10 pm. They decorate a huge swath of beautifully landscaped hillside with tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of lights and let all the guests wander through it. If you're there around New Years you should definitely see it.

Harmonyland is cheap for an amusement park these days, about $25 (at the current rate of 120 Yen to the dollar.) Compare that to Disneyland in California which is over $100 and is so crowded its hard to get around and you have to wait 3+ hours for a popular ride.

Note: I last visited Harmonyland about 9 months ago. They change the shows and rides occasionally so some things may be changed. I just looked at the the English language version of their website and it doesn't mention the parade under "live shows"., but it shows up on the Japanese version.

If you're in Beppu, there's a couple of other amusement parks nearby that are also fun. Kijima Kogen Park has a scary wooden roller coaster and other fun rides, though its really for older kids.

Adorable Sanrio place. Small but enough to spend more than half a day for young children.
