EXCELLENCE! Great location if you'd like to disconnect into the countryside and float in an outdoor hot spring or eat a fabulous and delicious Kaiseki. I had an in-room hot-spring tub that was situated in a small bamboo garden. The rain falling while in the hot waters was an incredible experience. The traditional Japanese sweets were so good! This place was Japanese hospitality at its finest. Highly recommend.

There's not enough stars for this place. I am completely and honestly blown away. I have been MORE and more impressed every hour of our stay. We were first greeted as soon as we got of the bus, and had our luggage carried down to the door. Then we were say down for some tea, as they took our bags to our room. We then again got day down in our room and had all the baths explained. We were even able to reserve a private bath then and there. The rooms are super clean and neat. We received a ton of amenities for our stay and special yukata just for dinner, which ended up being an amazing experience that made us feel like royalty. We had our own private room with a 7 course meal, which for me was insane and my taste buds have never been on a trip like that. Everyone has been so nice and helpful that it blew us away. As we finished our meal and headed back to our room, we were surprised to see that our tatami mats have been made for us and were ready to go. Im blown away by this experience, and i have to say that its been worth every single penny we have spent. I wish i could give this place more stars because it has been the best part of our vacation in Japan. DEFIENTLY RECOMMEND IT.

Awesome experience. Staff was amazing. Everyone was attentive and willing to at least try to accommodate our lack of Japanese. They were even kind enough to give us hand a written menu with our evening meal so we'd know what we were eating. Food was beautifully prepared, delicious and authentic. So authentic you might want to consider western breakfast unless you just love natto and extra slimy squid for breakfast. Just a thought, the full Japanese breakfast was definitely interesting.

It's my understanding that there is a private outdoor bath attached to every ground floor room and the upstairs rooms have nice indoor baths. The shared baths were numerous, clean and beautiful and are all sex segregated though there is a big reservable outdoor bath as well smaller indoor private baths if you want to soak with someone of the opposite sex. The smaller private baths are first come, first serve. Our room (Yumezuki) was western style with two beds and was 100% worth the $500 or whatever we paid for it.

There's also a free shuttle in the morning that leaves to Shizenji train station, or you can take it to Shizenji Onsen and walk around the smaller town before catching the bus to the train station.

This is my favourite ryokan so far in Japan. My husband chose the place and before our trip, I though it will be challenging for us to get to the hotel without a car.
However, it turned out to be relatively easy to get to and was totally worth the effort. They have amazing onsen. The service and food were also impeccable. I stayed for 2 nights and it was definitely one of my fondest memories in Japan.
I'd like to visit again if possible.

One of the nicest ryokan I've been to. It is a bit hard to get to (30 minutes by bus from the nearest station) but it's worth it! Great service, good food, and 5-6 onsen with 3-4 private baths. The outdoor private bath is what I like most about this place. It is spacious and beautiful. Come in late November when the weather starts to get slightly colder and the leaves are red. Stunning.

The rooms are a bit worn, but are clean and well situated. Our traditional style room had a river view, small terrace, and a private outdoor onsen. The rooms come with all the standards a traveller has come to expect and a bit more. Additionally, the facilities are immaculate and clearly carefully maintained. There are several public onsens to explore plus a couple private ones that you can book.

As a vegetarian, I was unsure whether they'd be able to accommodate my dietary restrictions. After some communication mishaps, they were able to create delicious and interesting meals for me. Dinner was a traditional Japanese meal with tofu, veg miso soup, and a slew of other courses. Breakfast was western style with baked goods, yogurt, cereal, omelet, grilled veggies, potato wedges, and more. As a meat eater, my boyfriend was especially happy with wagyu beef, fish, and seafood.

As I already said, the food is delicious and plentiful. Come hungry. The meals are so large that we pretty much passed out after our first dinner (ended around 8pm). We also didn't need lunch the next day after our giant breakfast (even after an hour and a half hike).

Oh, and service is exceptional. If you get the chance, I'd definitely recommend staying here.

This was my second experience with an onsen Ryokan, and it was absolutely top notch. Sagasawakan offers a seemingly secluded escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and the crowds of Kyoto.

The staff were all extremely professional and accommodating from the moment we stepped in all the way through to check out. Even though the bus ride from Shuzenji station was a bit stressful, the Ryokan sent a staff member to greet us at the bus stop (completely unnecessary, but very welcome). The Ryokan staff all speak a small amount of English, with one staff member being completely proficient.

The kaiseki dinner, which was typical of a Ryokan but with a focus on seafood, was served in a beautiful private dining room. On top of all of the service, the Ryokan offered a shuttle service for the return trip to the train station!

Amazingly accommodating staff, the best experience I've had at any hotel. If possible, try to ask for an upstairs room, the view is incredible!
