Tanigumi-san Kegon-ji Temple

Kegon Temple, usually simply called Tanigumi, is a locally well known and popular temple. It's also the final stop for Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage which begins in Wakayama Prefecture. Tanigumi is beautiful year round but it's best visited in autumn, as like nearby Yokokura, the fall foliage is particularly beautiful. The road leading to the temple is lined with shops so there's plenty of souvenirs to buy as well as food. During some holidays there are also many different stalls lined along the road as well.

Love the atmosphere. Lots of things to see. Temples, trees, interesting statues. Recommend.

This is such a pretty temple hidden in the mountains. I was able to get the shrine stamps for this temple. Very nice nature and I saw lots of cute lizards running around. It was a fun place.

Buddhist Temple where I pray to have a baby. 🥹🙏🏻 hope you guys can manage to have a child.

Kegonji is a site to behold. It depicts a tradition that dates back to hundreds of years. The sculptures are evidence of sophisticated creations of the japanese.

I have to visit this Kegonji when i am in Japan... a very peacefull and spiritual place.

西国三十三ヶ所参りのため訪問。平日で観光シーズンでないことから参道の店舗は閑散としておりました（おかげで駐車場は無料でした）
境内には人がたえることなく訪れてました。
立派なお寺なのに拝観料無料でした。満願を迎えるので感無量になりました。御朱印と共に満願証も書いてもらい「ようお詣りでした」と声をかけて頂きました。

到着した時は少し雨模様でしたが徐々に晴れてきて良かったです。自然が近くに感じられるお寺です。西国三十三ヶ所の満願時は御朱印をもらう際に満願ですと伝えたら案内されますよ＼(^o^)／

平安時代初期、798年に創建された寺。
日本最古の巡礼行であり日本遺産に認定されている西国三十三所の最終霊場でもある。また、願いが叶う「満願霊場」としても愛される名刹で、参道には土産物屋や飲食店が並び、桜や紅葉の美しさも格別。

「谷汲山華厳寺といい、千三百年の歴史を誇る日本最古の巡礼行「西国三十三所巡礼」の満願・結願のお寺
『谷汲さん』と親しまれています。

創建は桓武天皇の御宇、延暦十七年（七九八）で堂宇を建て御尊像を安置したところ、突然堂近くの岩穴より油が滾々と湧き出し、その油を御燈明に用いたという逸話が京の都まで伝わり、醍醐天皇より〝谷汲山〟の山号をいただき、また御尊像に華厳経が書写されていたことから〝華厳寺〟と記されたそうです。

御朱印は本堂で受付されています。

境内に竹灯りの竹細工が設置されています。
日が暮れると幻想的な雰囲気だと思います。
