吉沼地区の東側、西高野地区にある伽藍があります。 お寺の前は石材問屋となっています。また、境内の西側は運動公園（野球場）となっており吉沼体育館があります。
境内にある本堂建築記念碑によると 創建は鎌倉時代後期に名僧祐心上人により開基されたと伝えられています。 御本尊は大日如来で末寺三寺院を抱えた豊山派の大道場で常総地方に古くから伝わる弘法大師信仰の八十八処廻りの 先達住職を務める名刹です。 本堂は天正17年(1589)と明治40年(1907)に二度焼失、再建され、現在の本堂は平成13年(2001)に再建されたものです。
