So about google maps - yes, don't follow it. I'm putting a screenshot of komoot, a hiking app, leading to a great view up there, from which you can follow the signs and get to Torre. Once you're out of the city and on the stairs - follow the white-red markings and the road. It's an easy hike, but tiresome for there are a LOT of stairs. Still need to be in a good condition. As for the torre itself, I can't recommend going up. I did, yes, but stepped very carefully. I don't think this door is supposed to be open. The place needs some tightening, it seems it will collapse any second. The views are great even without going up the tower. I also recommend Belvedere, the view is even better, as it's higher. Visited in March, very pleasant. Not sure if google will keep them chronological in order though, but I hope you'll get some idea. Happy exploring!

The view was very enjoyable, though google maps took us the wrong way initially, the path has signs once you get to a certain point, it has many stairs so be prepared for a good workout. Use a trail finding app to find way.

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS.. leads you to a dead end. Only giving 5 cause the photos look good, though the views we saw were still good. Use a trail map app to find the right path.

I really enjoyed this walk up to the medieval tower that stands over Amalfi and can be seen above the monastery from the harbour. I saw the warnings about following Google maps and opted to use trail router to find the way up. The trail started on the right hand side of the road a short way after you go under the bridge if you follow the main road up through Amalfi from the harbour area. A path opposite a statue of a monk near enough. There are a lot of stairs but the walk was very enjoyable and going early on the morning we had the tower all to ourselves.

Great views over Ravello, Amalfi and Atrani. Doing all the stairs on the way down gave me very stiff calves the next day but was totally worth it!

Did not have a problem finding this with the MAPS.ME app (on play store). The path is clearly (and accurately) marked in this app. We started from the back of Amalfi, walking towards Pontone. Takes under 1hr to get up to the Torre.

The view is great! Make the time to go to the belvedere as well. You can sit on the edge and see both Amalfi and Atrani and the Mediterranean in front of you.

Steep walk with stunning views from the top and some old castles and towers. Looots of stairs, about 1.5 hours each way. We went from Amalfi and came back via Atrani. Don’t follow google maps (follow one of the trail apps), the path heads up the valley towards Pontone before cutting back along the ridge towards the ocean. Pack water and a snack!!

Beautiful hotel, comfortable/nicely decorated accommodations, delicious breakfast, friendly staff. About a 15-20 min walk downhill to get to Atrani and the beach, not recommended for anyone with difficulty walking. The beach costs 10 Eur per day to rent one chair. Beach umbrellas are included in that price (not the case in Napoli beaches). Probably best to rent a scooter while you are staying there to get to Amalfi and/or Positano (you must go here).

No one there when I went in the afternoon, I only ran into 3 other people on the trail up from atrani. A bit hard to find if trying to get there from atrani but worth the visit. Amazing viewing platform right at the top of the tower overhanging the walls. Highly recommended (free) experience, the hike is moderate difficulty but short.

Simple and easy hike, reached the first lookout in 10 minutes. Amazing view, great for sunset and even as it gets darker as it oversees Almafri

We trekked up here from Amalfi. The effort was absolutely worth it. The views from here are amazing - and definitely climb up those stairs to the top of the tower for the best experience. There is another lookout point further up if you explore the paths thoroughly. That view is gorgeous as well. Bring water.

The Torre dello Ziro is the keep of the Scalella castle in Pontone, a district of the city of Scala, dominant over the neighboring cities of Amalfi and Atrani.
For the Torre dello Ziro there are dating problems. Scholars do not exclude that it could be the reconstruction of an older work of the Duchy of Amalfi, the "Turris de Sancto Felice", cited in a document from 1151.
Built on a limestone hill, overlooking the city of Amalfi, of which it is an integral part of the landscape, it was once surrounded by crenellated walls, traces of which remain. It underwent restoration and transformations in 1292, 1305 and 1335. Another intervention dates back to 1480, ordered by Antonio Piccolomini, Duke of Amalfi. It appears that at the beginning of the 18th century it was in a state of efficiency and equipped with cannons, but shortly afterwards it was abandoned and deprived of care.
In the early years of the 16th century, the Torre dello Ziro was the scene of one of the bloodiest episodes in the history of Amalfi because, inside, Giovanna D'Aragona, known as "the Mad" was first locked up and then ferociously executed with her three children , Duchess of Amalfi, guilty of having contracted a morganatic marriage with her secretary.
Cylindrical in shape, on a high escarpment base, it was equipped with a crowning of arches protruding on brackets, suitable for plumb defense, which has almost disappeared. The internal organization can be ascribed to the 13th century, there are three overlapping floors in elevation. The ground floor, originally hosting only a large cistern, is now divided into two spaces, the smaller one was intended for the detention of "investigators and prisoners", lowered from a trap door on the first floor into the "pit", the larger one was always used for the collection of rainwater.
The passage and the staircase on the ground floor are therefore contemporary. The ancient entrance was located on the first floor, at a height of approximately m. 4.65. Entry into the tower was done with the help of ropes or a retractable wooden ladder.

Beautiful and enchanting place. Torre dello Ziro is located in the municipality of Scala, more precisely in the small hamlet of Pontone, just above Amalfi. From there you will enjoy a gorgeous view on Amalfi and its bay. There are different paths to reach those medieval ruins but I suggest coming from Pontone and then descend towards Amalfi while discovering the beautiful National Reserve Valle delle Ferriere.

We did this as a hike up from Amalfi and then back down through Atrani before returning to Amalfi. The loop took us 2.75 hours. We got a little lost a couple times but ended up finding our way just fine in the end.
