Big beauty...unfortunately we could not go inside because during winter season the monastery is only opened for weekends...but just to see it from close up and admire the view is amazing

A beautiful monastery with rich history of faith and fascinating views.
It is one of the seven monasteries of the so-called "Sword of Saint Michael" that runs from Ireland to Jerusalem.
Still there are religious praying in that spot, so high up and clearly a window towards heaven.

Absolutely wonderful. I strongly suggest to do the hike up through the forest instead of reaching just by car. The path is lovely, not hard and the reward of those views is amazing. The church itself is beautiful and very well maintained. We could enter free thanks to the abbonamento musei :)

Dedicated to the cult of the Archangel Michele, defender of the Christian people, the Sacra di San Michele fits inside a ruote of pilgrimage (long over 2000 km) which runs from Saint-Michel (France) to Monte Sant’Angelo (Puglia).

Wonderful place. I feel a lot of power here. Check the parking place to come here. I was in end of March and it was okay. But i think it’s difficult in summer. There is special bus to go up from the train station.

Absolutely beautiful, worth the trip from Turin .
Make a day trip from Totin, easy to reach by train and the climb up.

Absolutely outstanding place. Part of the older portion of the basilica still stands to the side of the main building, which has been built expertly into the rock face. This was one of the most constantly amazing parts of the basilica.

The architecture is breathtaking, as are the views. A beautiful place to visit, for the non-religious as well as believers. Don't miss it.

Sacra di San Michele is definitely worth a visit. The Sacra itself is amazing and the view is incredible. It is possible to see as far as Torino on one side and Val di Susa on the other. You can use your smartphone as an audio guide when scanning the QR codes. If you want to visit with your baby it is possible. I would not use a stroller but a baby carrier instead. We had no problem at all with the carrier and were able to visit everything. From the parking lot to Sacra di San Michele and back again took us exactly two hours.

Sacra di San Michele Abbey exists since X century. Umberto Eco (1932-2016) the Great Italian scientist and researcher of Medieval monastic life and culture was born not far from here in Alessandria. He was so impressed with Sacra di San Michele that he used its image to describe monastery in his immortal novel "The name of the rose". First church here had been built in 983-987 A. D. Saint Anselm (1033/34-1109) the Bishop of Canterbury who was born in Aosta visited this Abbey where his nephew Anselm the Junior was the monk in 1098. Anselm the Junior (1???-1148) became the Bishop of San Saba in Rome but when he was elected bishop of London that election was quashed by Pope Innocent II (1???-1143). This beautiful place is full of history and very fascinating. Sant'Amrodgio di Torino, Piemont, 🇮🇹 Italy 🇮🇹. September 30, 2018.

It is a very famous building as a symbol of Piemonte. Inside of building is amazing. Can't imagine how to build it! The view also very nice! There's picnic place out side of Sacra di San Michele. For family also recommend.

Really cool to see, we spent a few hours here, twice. First Time we went in 16€ for two adults, and second time we just spent time walking about, took some drone footage, lounged around admiring the view. Very nice. You can park right at the top for. Fee, or just 5/10min walk further down for free (unmarked bays)

Amazing place to visit around Turin, it’s really worth the detour. I recommend doing the way by foot as it is only 2h from under the hill. You see really great views on the way and it is really rewarding.

Located in a wonderful high place, very easy to reach it by car, it offers an astonishing view of the surroundings. If you have a clear sky you'll be able to see the mountains and the valley around. The place is pretty nice, a piece of history and architecture. Nearby there is a small coffee shop where you can eat or drink something.

Superb location, great views, magical environment plus all the inspiring atmosphere surrounding Humberto Ecco’s The Name of the Rose story creation. Just a tip: Get your camera prepared on the drive up there as the nicest views can only be taking from the road.

Do you recognize this? It was the set for "The Name of the Rose." Long drive up a narrow Mt Road to just shy of 1000 meters above sea level. Windy and cold late in November, but uncrowded. This is the time to visit.

Beautiful place with amazing views. The trekking to the top is bit difficult. Wear good trekking shoes if u r going in November and December as it gets slippery.

This castle is located on top of a hill near Saint Antonie Vaie. To reach this place its better to get off at Candova railway station instead of Saint Antonie Vaie if you are planning to hike up the hill. The castle gives a very beautiful view of the city down. To be mindful, there are no buses travellinv up and vice veraa from Sacra. The hike is very steep of almost 2 kms and took us 1.5 hours to reach .

This monument is a symbol of Piedmont Region and a place that inspired the writer Umberto Eco to conceive the best-seller  “Il nome della rosa” ( The name of the rose ) , the Sacra of San Michele is an ancient abbey built between 983 and 987 on the top of mount Pirchiriano, 40 km from Turin. From it’s towers you can admire Turin and a breathtaking view of the Val di Susa. Inside the main Church of the Sacra, dating from the twelfth century, are buried members of House of Savoy  (one of the oldest royal family in the world).

One of the most interesting places I've visited. I would love to return to this location and share the experience with my wife or family.

A must visit in the Piedimonte region. Only about a 40 min train ride from Torino. Honestly the walk up is tough, mostly because the path is paved with horrible rocks that are not good for your stability. Along the trails are a few cool things to see. Making it it the top is quite the pay off the views of the Sacra and Val di Susa are incredible. Enter the Sacra for eight euros, the visit it quite short but if you’ve walked to the top just pay for the visit - you earned it!
