Gil Guesthouse

The only guesthouse that was open all-year-round on our way to West Fjords this Winter. Great for travellers who want to immerse into "Icelandness", with a very friendly and knowledgeable owner. Not for luxury seekers.

The rooms are basic but clean, warm and in good shape. Everything one needs for a quick breakfast can be found in the kitchenette within the room. Books in the common reading and billiard area provide a lot of ideas for a conversation while waiting for Aurora Borealis.

Stopped here during a road closure on a stormy day and our host was very accommodating. He gave us tea and let us wait inside for over an hour. We didn’t stay but were very grateful for the hospitality and kindness.

Our visit was merely a coincidence. We were driving to get to the western fjords. We timed it just right to get a beautiful sunset so we decided to stop here to enjoy it. Very lovely man at the reception, offered us tea and coffee for free. They have a beautiful dog that loves to be petted. Very worth visiting!

The hosts are really nice and friendly. They take care on their guests and gives you good advices where to go in Iceland. You can find cozy and clean rooms. There also a restaurant, where you can eat dinner.

Iceland has many jewels of nature and landscape.

The Gil guesthouse is one of the accomodation jewels of Iceland.

Our room was very nice and had everything we needed, we had our own bathroom, a table. Everything was very clean.

We haven't met unfriendly hosts during our Iceland vacation. But the kindness we experienced at Gil guesthouse was exceptional.

They food and breakfast served in the cozy restaurant is mostly locally and very delicious.

We didn’t stay here overnight but we stopped for food after a REALLY long day driving through the mountains. There are not a lot of options in the mountains, it takes a while to get somewhere and the restaurants close kinda early, so we tried our luck here around 9:45pm. The chef was super friendly and was happy to help us. He let us try some Puffin while he made us some fresh pizza. I wasn’t planning on trying Puffin this trip but it was actually really good! And the pizza was probably the best I’ve ever had. Simple but delicious! And for Iceland being pretty expensive on food and for the effort he put into us, he didn’t ask for a lot of money. Special thanks to that chef - you saved our night!!!

Amazing place with good food. We were biking for some time against the strong wind and stopped at Gil Guesthouse for a break and lunch. Unfortunately, the kitchen was closed as it opens at 5pm only, but they kindly offered to make us some fish and chips that was absolutely delishious! Highly recommend to visit, cozy place and very nice people! :)

Stopped for a breakfast. Came in late, but the owners were very nice to accommodate 5 of us. The breakfast was good, very homey. Cold cuts, cheese, eggs, oat meal and jam. Fresh toasts. Tried the islandic way of eating herring: on a toast with sour cream!

Great find after a long day of bike packing in a headwind! Dinner and a room with a warm shower! The breakfast was top notch in the morning and the young gentleman (sorry, we didn’t get your name!) was so kind and helpful to bring us a piece of gear we accidentally left behind! Many thanks 🙏

Very nice food and amazing views. Really close to the main road, perfect for a quick meal at a good price. The owner was so charming and the fish and chips really good! Thanks for all !

We had a fantastic meal at the restaurant here. The owner stayed open for us to get a warm meal after a long day. I'd never had a black bun on my burger before, but it's so good! We would like to stay here the next time we're in the area, but grateful for the hospitality of the restaurant.

Great place to stay if you are traveling across the country. The hosts were very accommodating even though we arrived almost at 10 pm. The place is clean, you have a private clean washroom and shower. Although you need to wait a bit for hot water in the shower but you are being advised ahead of time so you know what to expect. There is shared lounge with kitchenette and fridge.
The hosts are friendly and helpful. There is a cute white cat on the property that can come up and say hello.

It is an amazing deal for the price we paid and the room is clean and has its bathroom and even a smart TV allows you watch Netflix or Amazon prime! However there is no kitchen , so all travelers should be prepared you can maximum make a tea . The host has a restaurant right next to the guesthouse with a really good price :)

A good place to stay, if you want to explore the Vestfjords. The rooms are clean and nice. There is a cosy atmosphere and the staff and owners are friendly and helpfull. A beautiful view from the restaurant.

Very nice and cozy place, newly created. Large rooms, comfortable beds.
Highly recomended od you travel to/from Westfjords.

Adequately equipped rooms, very clean, fuss-free check-in with the manager and great food

Staff is amazing and I LOVED the food here! Highly recommend the burger :) the whole place has a great vibe and it’s such a beautiful area, you really can’t go wrong here.
