We prebooked a table and everything was ready when we came. Very good and fast service. The food was alright, most of it was good. The cocktails are good.
A cosy place in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.

This was such a neat little find during our Iceland trip. We just went and got pleasantly surprised. The salmon is divine and the 2 of the 3 plates they offer are sublime.
I attached photos with the cheese plate and the meat plate. I am curious about the sea fruits plate, so maybe next time I'll get that.

Fantastic under the radar spot for a really delicious meal that uses local in season ingredients but prepared with a ton of international cuisine techniques.
Mink whale meat isn't an Icelandic delicacy from what I was told but they had it on the menu and of course we had to have it. Really tasted like the best steak I've ever had. Melt in your mouth and meaty and tender all at once. We also had horse steaks and it was very tough but a ton of flavor.
Very medieval like feel to the restaurant ambiance and the staff was very nice and welcoming.

Looking forward to going back on our next trip in Iceland!

Only rated the service lower for those from US who are visiting - very typical (IME) service as comparable European restaurants. Food was some of the best I've had. Kids ate light - rice, veges and baked potato but they loved the food!! Adults ate soup, salmon, chicken, pasta and a local mammal (I won't mention it here as many will find it ethically challenging). Drink menu was good, atmosphere was awesome (in a European way), and I would for sure ea lt here again. Parking was challenging, but you'll figure it out!

This restaurant has old world charm and a great atmosphere with a delicious Brazil inspired menu. A limited number of options means each item gets really nicely cooked.

Good food at an affordable price. The Naked potatoes and the salmon were especially wonderful. The service was fine too.

Exceptional meal! Very delicious Cod dish and a chicken pasta dish. The flavour and presentation exceeded expectations! We both left stuffed. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating with our tourists questions. We would highly recommend.

I spontaneously decided to eat here, since my Hotel was close by. I am an educated chef with plenty of experience within the hotel- and restaurant industry in Germany and Scandinavia. All I have to say is that this was by far the most positive surprising dining experience I have had in in a very long time in Northern Europe. Excellent service, very tasty, properly prepared, and beautifully presented, local dishes that are entirely home made and portion wise able to satisfy even the most hungry guests coming through the door. All this gets topped by an cozy atmosphere. If you happen to pass through this area in a hungry state, this is the place you should consider. It's not cheap, but quality usually comes with a price. The quality presented here more than just justifies the price tag. Keep up the good work!

I would like to share another incredible experience I had here in Iceland. This restaurant is simply sensational, I was very well attended, excellent food (not to mention the presentation of the dishes) and the friendliness of the chef.

Really enjoyed my meal here. Large portions as others have said. Not very busy (we went on a Thursday evening about one hour before closing). I got the horse steak which was the first time trying it and it was tasty. The menu was very cool and rustic looking as well.

I am sat here in A Hansen!!! Just had the most amazing meal!! All meals were done beautiful and brought out in good time, real quick. The ribs were falling off the bone! The jacket potatoes were done perfect! My cod was exquisite. The chicken salad was massive. One of us was super greedy and had the tasting menu with whale, horse and lamb which was beautiful. Oh, and the chips are brilliant!

Lovely restaurant, could not have been more helpful. 8 of us arrived with no reservation and yet they do e their best to sit us. Kids were given colouring books and crayons, food tasted very good. My order was I correct and the staff were so apologetic. Would highly recommend.

I went there with friend on my birtday and had beaf steak with baked potato. Our meals tasted perfect and was larger portion than you often get in Icelandic resturants. The service was good and very friendly. Will come back again and again :)

A.hansen restaurant is a really really good place to eat there and the best is the waitress a tall man with a beard his service is amazing and I have never seen like this food and service ever

As first stop in Iceland we decide to go into this restaurant and thia was not a false decision. The offered Whale or Horse steaks were really delicious and the staff very fast and friendly and proposed lots of other meals and the kind how we should try it. Absolutely a proposal when you stay or stop here!

A. Hansen restaurant was a spiritual journey. A pilgrimage, so to speak. I walked in expecting a touristy spot to grab some "whale steak" an Iceland tourist dish. However I entered into a scene of Game of Thrones, but there was no John Snow, only me and that menu of exotic beast to conquer. Mink Whale and Icelandic horse are options here. Being from a city, my heart sank at the thought of eating one of these majestic creatures but when we asked for a sample bite of each, into the rabbit hole, never once thinking how I would return. The flesh of these mammals were the most savory thing I have ever tasted. After just a few bites I heard opera, I saw the northern lights, I felt my testosterone levels rising. It was something that changed me for the better. If you're in Iceland, for your own sake, go to this restaurant.
