Persepolis isn't just beautiful, it's a mesmerizing journey through time. Rising from the plains like a mirage, its grandeur speaks of empires long gone. Carved reliefs whisper tales of heroes and conquests, while towering columns, defying gravity and scorching sun, stand as silent sentinels. Each stone whispers stories of artistry, blending influences from across a vast kingdom into a harmonious symphony. Light bathes the intricate details, highlighting the delicate floral motifs and powerful figures, leaving you awestruck by the sheer scale and meticulous craftsmanship. The sheer age adds another layer of mystique, reminding you that these wonders have witnessed centuries of history unfold. Whether bathed in golden sunrise or the soft hues of dusk, Persepolis is a testament to human ambition and artistry, a beauty that transcends time and leaves you breathless.

However, it's important to note that the beauty of Persepolis extends beyond its visual splendor. It's also a reminder of the complexities of history, representing both the achievements and contradictions of a powerful empire. Understanding this context adds depth and richness to your appreciation of this magnificent site.

One hour away from the city of Shiraz, we see the capital of the Achaemenid(pars) Empire, one of the largest structures left over from 2,500 years ago, the glory and majesty of that ruler ship can be seen in this place, and it can also be seen in the works left on the columns and walls of Persepolis. I see your country and human rights carved on the stones, it is highly recommended to see this place and feel the masterpiece of the engineer of that time.

Absolutely thrilling to experience Persepolis! Beyond words. Visited in 1999 - completely empty, no other tourists at the site for several hours. Unforgettable, utterly serene, silent and inspiring. One felt a genuine connection to its past with no restricted areas, barriers, ropes, glass, etc., just quietly appearing as though it had been untouched and forgotten since antiquity. With its 2500 year history, almost inconceivable to this American tourist, the Iranian people can be proud and envied for such a great legacy.

(The Iranian people: Wonderful and warmly welcoming everywhere I went as I travelled across the country. Hope to get back there one day!)

One of the best experiences ever to witness a great piece of history of our ancestors. When I was there, the air felt different, it’s hard to describe but you feel like the energy is still there from thousand of years ago. Should be one of the wonders of the world.

Persepolis is like my religion.l was a voluntary guide in Persepolis for 3 years since 2008 and most of the time I go there.
There are a lot of huge and impressive stones over there that remain from Achaemenid time more than 2500 years ago. It was built by the order of Darius the Great and his successors in 518 BC and was unfortunately destroyed by setting fire to Alexander the Macedonian in 330 BC.
Persepolis has 12 different palaces and it was one of the Achaemenian capitals where they celebrated Nowruz ceremonies. It has a special symmetrical architecture. When you pass 111 short steps and stand in front of the Gate of all Nations, 2 huge bull-shaped gards( lamasu) will welcome you.
This is the second monument in Iran that was registered as a UNESCO heritage site in 1979.
The best time to visit Persepolis is 9 am to 12. Don't forget to take a sunshade, sunglasses, and white gloves or an umbrella to protect your skin from strong sunlight.

The group of palaces of Takht Jamshid is located in a wide area surrounded by the “Rahma” mountain on one side, and ends with the “Morodesht” plains on the other. These large royal palaces were built in the vicinity of Parse. The Greeks called it Persepolis. Work began on the construction of Takht Jamshid during the reign of Darius I, around the year 518 BC.

At first, high foundations were prepared, and then the “Apadana” hall and the main stairs were built on them, as well as the “Tijr” palace. After Darius died, he was succeeded by his son, Khashayar Shah, who built the Hall of Hadish and proposed the project of building a hall with a hundred pillars. After him, Ardashir I sat on the throne and completed the construction of this hall.
It is worth mentioning here that these palaces and halls were built on foundations and pillars that were made of large, harmonious rocks that sculptors carved in the mountains themselves. The palaces of Takht Jamshid were built on a land of 13 hectares. Takht Jamshid was equipped with thermal systems and air conditioners, which provided the internal spaces with necessary heat in the winter, and in return, in the hot summer days, it provided a cool and moderate atmosphere.
The plains of Marvdasht, as well as the very high ceilings of the palaces, the halls and spacious spaces, the open doors, and the large number of windows in them, all of which helped provide a mild atmosphere in the summer. As for the winter, the walls were built of bricks and bricks, and the layers of plaster, in addition to the long thick purple curtains, formed a thermal insulator that prevented the penetration of the Persian cold into the halls and spaces.
The roofs covered with timber also helped to warm the surroundings. Moreover, the water delivery network and waterways existed in Takht Jamshid. Excavations at this archaeological site revealed underground networks for water delivery and crooked waterways with a length of more than two kilometers.
The art of Achaemenid architecture is an art that mixed with the styles of Babylonian, Assyrian and Egyptian architecture, and what was widespread in the Greek cities in the Asia Minor region and among the peoples of Urartu, but this art has been developed independently of other architecture arts by adopting wonderful artistic models and creations stemming from an Iranian spirit wealth. The aim of the Achaemenids in constructing such majestic buildings and buildings was to highlight their great royal power to the world.
Through the excavation work conducted in 1312 AH. U On the northwestern side of the foundations of Takht Jamshid, about forty thousand clay tablets were found in the shape and scale of prayer dust, on which phrases were written in Elamite script. After reading these Elamite tablets, it turned out later that they are documents that talk about the costs of building the palaces of Takht Jamshid.

Bastion of civilisation. 2500 years ago. 500BC. Human rights and women's rights respected. This is a must visit place for all. The reign of Darius the great and successors was full of humanity. Architecture at its best. With duty of care responsibilities in place. Some you can't even find today. You will also learn that the white European went and plundered the wealth and the civilisation. You can see how history played out. An eye opener. Persopolis in Shiraz, Iran. A centre of world civilisation and over 26 countries represented at state functions. All minuted on stone

Although a bit out of the way, Persepolis is, for me, the most extraordinary site in all of Iran. If you are into history, you simply can't miss this place. There are dozens of tours starting from Shiraz or even Tehran to this place and the prices aren't high at all.

Wow! An absolute highlight in Iran. What I find funny is that it costs 1 million just like any other sight in Iran but this one is worth WAY more than that. You can easily spend 3-4 hours exploring the beauty of this place. They even offer an impressive VR glasses at the entrance! We got a guide at the entrance, there is a lot of them available. She knew a lot but her English wasn't the best. She helped us a great deal at the end with arranging a taxi, thank you!
