Kabootar Dovecote (Pigeon Tower)

This pigeon tower is one of the most beautiful pigeon towers that I have seen in Iran. The indirect sunlight that falls into the pigeon tower creates a subtle and beautiful play of light and shadows around the pigeon holes.

Pigeon towers were built to collect the excrements of the pigeons so that they could be used as fertilizer in the fields. It is also said that the pigeons would protect citizens from an approaching army by flying out of the tower when they hear the noise of hooves made on and transmitted by the ground.

this dovecote tower belongs to Qajar time ( 1800s AD) & located just near the Narin Castle ( around 800 meter ) . Dovecote towers where used throughout Iran to collect the pigeon & dove’s dung ( manure ) which is a very useful fertilizer . Meybod Dovecot tower is a two story building which can house 4000 pigeons . there is a plastered ring around the tower in white color to prevent repltiles like snakes to get in & disturb the birds inside . some big bowls are installed on the roof to water the birds in the hot seasons . interior architecture is also a masterpiece as it is built in a way to prevent the whole structure from destruction caused by birds vibration while they flutter .

Very beautiful tower with 2500 Tomans entrance fee for iranians and 10000 Tomans for foreigner. 20 min time for visit is sufficient. You can use stairs for climbing and go to roof.

This tower includes 4000 dovecotes that are the holes in the area of 400 square centimeters on the wall of the tower. It is amazing.

There have been different towers with different usages in the past in Maybod city. These towers primarily had a protective and monitoring role. They were generally built near the city entrance in two or three stories to monitor a broad area of the external part of the city. Dovecote tower is located in the Southeast part of the old fort and in contrary to the other towers. It has been built to house pigeons and use their manure. It didn’t have a protective role and contained four thousand pigeonholes for the birds to nest. The small upper tower attracted the birds and the plastered rings around the tower body kept reptiles like snakes from getting into the tower. There have been some big bowels on the roof filled with water for the birds. This tower proves that there have been agricultural farms around this area and farmers used birds’ manures to fertilize the soil.

Another way of having proper way to keep pigeons and use their dropping for the farms . ages .sending letters to others places in past in desert...

This pigeon tower is very convenient for visiting, because it is close to a castle, ice house and caravansaray.
Ticket price is 150.000 rials for foreigners. You should pay for a ticket for a guy selling ice cream.
You may refresh yourself with ice cream, juice, tea, coffee or even juice with ice-cream in kiosks surrounding the site.

The pigeon tower is a giant roost for the collection of excrement of pigeons eg. guano which was used as fertilizer in old times before the invention of chemical fertilizerz. The building has been beautifully constructed and invites you to have a visit and see yourself the ingenuity involved in the construction of the building.

همونطور که از اسمش پیداست، محل زندگی کبوتر ها بوده، حالا اینکه کاربردش چی بوده رو نمیدونم ولی بیش از ۱۰۰۰ لانه برای کبوتر داخل خود برجک قرار داره، دو طبقه هست و طبقه سوم هم که پشت بوم هست، نمای زیبایی داره و فوق العاده است، ورودی هم نفری ۱۵ هزار تومان هست.

برای بازدید و آشنا شدن با یک روش سنتی مکان مناسبی است. می توانید با توجه به زیبایی بنا عکس های زیبایی هم بگیربگیرید. در ورودی محوطه کافه کوچکی هم هست که قهوه های خوش طعمش آدم رو شارژ می کنه

تغییرات کبوتر خونه نسبت به ۵ سال قبل، یکی اضافه شدن راهنمای نوشتاری چینی بود! دومی هم باز بودن راه پشت بام با یه ویو خوب به کل شهر میبد. و البته دیگه هیچ کبوتری داخلش نبود☹
اما در کل کبوترخانه در مناطق کویری برای جمع آوری کود ارگانیک با معماری منحصر به فردی، ساخته میشد.
کبوترخانه به دلیل امکان پرواز همزمان کبوترها باید بصورت ضد زلزله احداث میشد، سطح بیرونی کاملا صاف تا از ورود خزندگان جلوگیری بشه و ابعاد روزنه های ورودی متناسب با کبوترها و نه بزرگتر، برای پیشگیری از ورود پرنده های بزرگتر شکاری به داخل کبوتر خانه، ساخته میشد👌
